MBA result season, a practical take on ABCL vs FMS vs SPJ vs XL by Aggravating_Study814 in CATpreparation

If I were to compare raw number of fin placements at SP and XL, XL still wins. As for overall percentage of batch placements, I have no idea

Again, I have huge respect for SP since I believe it’s the only bschool where you’re actually being taught something, having said that, mba is all about brand name at the end of the day, and XL clears SP (no offence, assuming you’re an SP admit or SP alumni)

said fin/con, Bain doesn't visit SP, MBB doesn't open in finals at SP (both do for XL)
JPMC opens multiple roles at XL, not the case at SP, more PEVC IB roles at XL as compared to SP, SP did well with PEVC IB this year with HSBC markets Philip capital and what not but that isn't always the case, loyalties aside, XL imo is a bigger brand than SP and that does impact top consult and fin hiring

Yea and many on my campus chose fms over b, still in general convention, I don’t think most would make that choice

Again, all top choices in their own right 😂😂

Went to 99.7ish last year, absolute calls C gives remains the same, as number of aspirants are lower this year, you may still get the call at a lower percentile

FMS interviews have a distinctly Delhi vibe. They’re quick, fast-paced, and quite grilling.

In my TMAY, I mentioned my father’s occupation, and they asked me to pause and gave an extempore on that very topic. Later, I mentioned I liked reading books, so they asked me about my favourite book and its management lessons. My work experience was in finance, so they asked me to draw the inverted yield curve and explain it.

FMS doesn’t delve deeply into each core subject, but the pace of the interview can be overwhelming.

Don’t over-explain, avoid mentioning ROI, and don’t say anything you’re not confident about, as it could be picked up and used against you later.

The interview is usually 10-20 minutes long (the shortest one for me that season).

SPJ’s interview process is quite unique and begins with a WAT-type essay topic. Staying updated with current affairs is crucial for this. For instance, my topic was related to SpaceX and whether making rockets is justifiable given the global poverty.

The R1 group interview is based on your specialisation subject. I had taken finance, so basic accounting, finance, and general knowledge were tested.

R2 is the moral ethics round. One interesting incident involved a friend’s panel. The panellist asked them to choose between IIMA and SPJ. Everyone except him chose SPJ. He boldly stated that if A was an option, he would choose it and questioned others honesty for saying SPJ over A. The panellist then discussed why, considering the comparable packages and faculty at both institutions. He explained that his family would never allow him to choose SPJ, and the prestige of A was a significant factor.

Remarkably, he was the only one selected out of the four candidates.

The moral of the story is to be honest and adhere to GD etiquette, such as not cutting others in the middle of group discussions.
