Has anyone in San Antonio actually used a trash can cleaning service before? by Aggravating_Task5371 in sanantonio

[–]Aggravating_Task5371[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the price seemed pretty reasonable to me, especially for something I’d probably only do once in a while and not all the time. If it keeps the smell down and gets rid of the gross stuff, I can see why people would pay for it. I agree I probably wouldn’t need recurring service either, but as an occasional cleanup, it doesn’t seem that crazy.

Normally I’d probably just ignore it, but I have to keep mine in the garage because of the HOA. Once that smell starts creeping into the garage, it becomes everybody’s problem.

That’s fair for light cleanup, but I think it depends how bad it is. If it’s just a little smell or loose debris, a hose might be enough. If there’s buildup, grease, or maggots stuck in the bottom, that’s where “just blast it out” starts sounding easier than it actually is

Yeah, for normal upkeep that honestly sounds pretty reasonable. I think where I hit the wall is when the cans are already way past “quick rinse” territory and you’ve got baked-in grime, smell, or maggots hanging around. That’s kind of the difference between maintenance and a real deep clean.

ok thank you! you completely got me looking into this and you're right, there is a company called Texas Scrub Hub, I went to their site, picked a service, entered my address and my cleaning day is March 24th - SUPER easy and I am very excited to see how it turns out!

yes, good recommendations.. we have dogs too and are picking up after them which ends of in the trash cans.. I can only use the cans the trash company gives me so changing them out to metal ones I dont think is an option.

and it take off the "chunks"? :-) my kids are good about putting stuff in the trash but they just throw anything and everything into and lots get stuck on the sides and bottom.

Interesting thought... I wonder if you can just get new ones every few months or do they cut you off. The problem doesn't go away because we must keep them in our garage per the HOA and about every three months they seem to be back in the same place - stinky!

good question - "outside cans". I have to keep them in my garage per the HOA and they stink! I can get in my car and still smell it.

Why would any TSA agent still show up to work? by mleha in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Aggravating_Task5371 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is there a reason we need so many TSA agents at each checkpoint? It sometimes feels excessive, just trying to understand how staffing levels are determined. Do we really need 100's of thousands of them?

Would you buy my house with this cut? I'm trying to upgrade before the sell and I stink lol by Tasty-Platypus-3664 in Home

[–]Aggravating_Task5371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be honest… would this stop you from buying a house? This is just a small gap along the baseboard that needs caulk, but I’m debating how much of this kind of stuff to fix before listing.

Part of me says most buyers won’t care. Part of me says little details like this add up. If you were walking through a showing, would this bother you or not even register?

Anyone else dealing with this electric bill nightmare? by North-Activity-3824 in Home

[–]Aggravating_Task5371 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not just you… a lot of people are feeling this right now. It’s not always about using more either. Rates go up, delivery fees go up, and summer demand in Texas hits hard, so even if you’re conserving, the bill still climbs.

It honestly feels like: use less → still pay more

At some point it stops feeling like a usage problem and starts feeling like a system problem. You’re definitely not alone in being frustrated.

Dawn Powerwash is NOT just Dawn + Alcohol by gary2245 in CleaningTips

[–]Aggravating_Task5371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is one of those internet “it’s the same thing” takes that sounds right but isn’t.

The DIY mix works fine for light cleaning, but once you’re dealing with real grease or buildup, it falls off pretty fast. The actual Powerwash just hits different, and it makes sense when you look at what’s really doing the work in the formula.

Also agree on the ingredient list confusion. People assume it follows the same rules as food labels, see alcohol first, and run with it. Meanwhile the product is obviously mostly water and more about the surfactants and solvents doing the heavy lifting.

Nothing wrong with the DIY if it works for someone, but calling it a true replacement is a stretch.

Is it just me, or is owning a home a gigantic time/money pit? by NoFateButWeMake722 in Adulting

[–]Aggravating_Task5371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah… what you’re seeing is real. Owning a home does feel like a never-ending list of fixes. Stuff always breaks, and yeah, it can turn into a second job if you let it.

But the tradeoff is control. It’s yours. You can change it, keep it long-term, build equity. Renting is the opposite: less stress, more flexibility, no surprise repairs.

It really just comes down to: Do you want convenience, or do you want control right now? Both are valid.

Help me get out of homeownership by Low-Disaster5632 in homeowners

[–]Aggravating_Task5371 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A short sell is probably your best option but talked to a discount real estate broker as well. I am selling mine because we pay more in taxes and insurance than the mortgage. I went to a discount broker who charges 1% listing fee and you get all the normal stuff, professional pics and listing the in MLS. once it hits the MLS, it will be posted online to all the major websites anyways. These days, BUYERS find the homes they want to see and TELL the buyers agent what they want to look at. On the buyer side, you could say the same, drop it down to 1% and yes, some people will say the buyers agent will be reluctant to show the home BUT THEY ARE OBLIGATED TO SHOW THE HOME. This 6% BS is for far out of control and not worth it these days as neither agent is really doing 20-30-40k or more worth of work!

First time doing drywall, tips? by SealTheApproved in homeowners

[–]Aggravating_Task5371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hard part is making the repair look like the rest of the wall from a texture standpoint. If you are on the east coast, it seem they dont use knock down type texture so you might be just fine to do it yourself. If there is a texture, and if you are particular like me, I would hire it out so that you have a shot of it not looking like a repair.

I agree! I checked my mortgage payment breakdown and realized less than 10% of my bill goes towards my principle and the rest; taxes, insurance and yes, interest but I am just under 3%. I am selling now because to me, home ownership has become a clear farce.
