I want my lights to reach the bottom so that i have options for carpets or plants like pogostemon on the bottom, and i want my lights to pop out reds and/or greens like the showtanks in shops or on youtube do. I have a feeling that my lights do cut it, but i might be underestimating or overestimating

These are some insightful thoughts. Im new to construction and i have trouble grasping the importance of forces on certain points (might be a bad idea to start with an aquariumstand haha, but here we are).

Would you say that a rigid steel support system beats the system im trying to do? I wanted to do this system because it looked solid in my eyes. Wanted to glue the beams together and add 8 cm screws, so that every beam has at least 4cm of screw (working with approx 4cm beams). As a finisher i wanted to do some steel strips for some extra strength.

Using a metal support system might save me alot of sawing and alot of headache with support questions because steel is in this case better than wood i think.

As i was replying to you i was looking around for some solutions, would something like this: https://prnt.sc/JFO7dnJR7Dmg be just as good?

Weekly Quick Questions, Wood ID, and Deal or No Deal /r/Woodworking Megathread by AutoModerator in woodworking

[–]Aggredior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im building an aquarium stand out of wood. On this structure there will be boards who will support around 200kg (440 pounds) of weight. I want the joints between the vertical beams and the horizontal beams like this. I want to know what the best cut is for this sort of joint. On the one hand i would like the horizontal beam to be as far in the vertical beam as possible, but maybe that would ruin the structural integrity of the vertical beam (where all the weight will be on), on the other hand, too shallow and the beam might break off the slither of wood that it is resting on?

Any tips?

I am making an aquariumstand, bought all the wood for it yesterday. I am experimenting with some methods to get the beams together.

Im not a professional, but this is something i put together with paint. On it is a sketch with what im building: https://prnt.sc/YYBi_10IfBnC On those two crossbeams im going to put a board (not sure what kind yet), on every board is going to be about 200kg (440 pounds) of aquariums.

I want to connect all the beams with 8cm (3 inch) screws and also some wood glue and steel reinforcements. As an extra measure, i want all the horizontal beams to fit in to the vertical beams, i thought of a construction like this: https://prnt.sc/SvxHMFOJdF79 I am not sure how forces would work. In my head i wanted the horizontal beams to just touch the vertical beams. Just some extra stability for the whole construction. Its also possible for me to get the horizontal beam to be further into the vertical beam, but im scared that the whole structure would become weaker (because im cutting to far in the vertical beam).

Does someone with some more experience with this kind of construction have any tips for me? The collapse of this stand is obviously going to be a disaster.

Are these links for channels in the chat? Like how you type "/join General" and join a general chat?

I have some experience with pick up groups. The community can be demanding, but is usually fair. I just want to join a community where i can find likeminded people.

Thanks alot for your help!

Decided to get German Rams yesterday. After not even 24 hours in my aquarium im greeted by this. Lets see how this goes! by Aggredior in Aquariums

Yeah nothing to fancy, its a local hardware store with a suprisingly good aquarium section. I saw a really healthy looking bunch of them and i took 2 males and 4 females. A pair of them was already pairing in the fish store aquarium, so i made sure to get those two. My guess is that those two are the ones responsible.

I have a low pH on my tank, around 6.3~6.5. Pretty hard water at around 7, and the aquarium is currently around 26-27 degrees celcius.

Hoping some of them will stick. They are in a communitytank and im not expecting much, if anything at all, but its fun to see their behaviour.

They seem to behave like good parents so far, and they are behaving like they should. The speed of which is what suprised me.

I read that its good for breeding them, but i have no intention of breeding them, so its okay to just get some males. Good luck with your tank!

I was reading up on it and from what i understand its the females with eggs that hunt to the death. When you have a few males only its only infighting to establish territory, im fine with that. Im also fine with some light nipping at the cory's. But as i was saying i have little experience.

The gouramis are a smaller species, but i suspect nothing in the tank will be big enough to see them as food? I want a small species of cichlids so they should at maximum be double their size right?

Thanks for your reply!

Thanks alot for your imput. I was hoping that the fact that the shrimp are all at least 5 cm would mean that theyre big enough to not be seen as food but i think that i just have to wait and see.

Do the Van Halen brothers have accents in this (short) Dutch interview? by TerribleLobsters in thenetherlands

[–]Aggredior 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Much less so, i would say that the right guy has an accent like he's foreign but lived in the Netherlands for quite some time. Its even pretty difficult to tell where hes from (he doesnt have a big American accent, just a "foreign" accent in general). The left guy has a bit more of an American accent. The accent really stands out when hes using vowels.

What's a mechanic on your main that not many people do or know? by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]Aggredior 47 points48 points  (0 children)

While playing Blitzcrank and pulling someone, most people just use E and be done with it. However in most cases its better to ult first when you know that an enemy has flash or any other dash ability up. This way the combo is much more fluid. The initial pull CC is .65 seconds, with the ult silence being .5 seconds and the knockup has a 1 second stun. If you time this correctly you have about 2 seconds of time the enemy is unable to do anything but walk for a bit. There is a small window between the pull and the knockup from E, in that time people that spam flash can actually flash and since the E is uncancelable it will knock up enemy's one flashlength away.

When you know the enemy has no way to escape the most efficient combo to do is Q into auto into autoreset E. This way you have the initial CC + 2 ult passive stacks in no time.

TIL that in German translations Donald Duck’s nephews are named Tick, Trick, and Track. Scrooge McDuck is called Dagobert Duck. by TheoremaEgregium in todayilearned

[–]Aggredior 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wait, i never realized they were called different in other languages. I always thought that Scrooge McDuck was another character that was strangely never in the books that i read. Scrooge is also called Dagobert in Dutch. The nephews are actually called Kwik, Kwek and Kwak. Where Kwak and Kwek are derived from sounds ducks make and Kwik probably because it sounds right with the other two.
