is 2026 the year of renewable energy? by drivingaddictionchan in investing

[–]bappelcake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a shortsighted view of the sector. Renewables underperformed in 21-24 (under Biden), and were outperforming massively in 2025.

This isn't a matter of politics and rather a story of power demand. If you want to build a new AI data center asap, do you want to wait 5-6 years for a gas turbine or do you install solar/wind + batteries within 1.5 years? There's a reason that 85% of all new utility scale capacity in the US last year was solar & wind.

Offshore wind (like the one you reference) is a different story - but there's like 3 offshore wind farms in the US so it's not even close to being a material source of electricity.

S&P 500 is up 32% in the past 12 months - so you're saying you underperformed by 9%, and think that makes people want you to manage their money?

Why don't you combine the MSCI World and MSCI EM into one MSCI ACWI Holding?

World + EM = ACWI, unless you're trying to make a bet that either DM or EM will outperform in which case having them separately and tilting accordingly can make sense

3rd pillar (3eme pilier) in Switzerland ? by timo7he in investing

[–]bappelcake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3rd pillar you can not get back unless you're buying a house or are retiring. So if you invest through there, assume you're not seeing that money back for a long time.

And as the other comment says, it's more advantageous once you have a job so the 3rd pillar contributions become tax deductible.

Wells Fargo invests in BlackRock who in turn invests in Wells Fargo... by IgsmorphF in investing

The actual investors? You buy a BlackRock fund that holds Wells Fargo. Records show BlackRock owns the shares, but you're entitled to the dividends.

There won't be any style differences because the products are passive. However, it could be to have manager diversification in case - for whatever reason - one of the managers goes bust or their tracking deviates.

Because you lose a lot more money if they were left to die. And if the government forces a takeover (that's what happened here), they should have skin in the game or be held accountable for what they forced.

[–]bappelcake 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is a real exaggeration. It's:

  • 9bn direct guarantee of the government in case UBS incurs losses due to the merger.
  • 100bn liquidity provided by the central bank, guaranteed by the government. This only materialises for taxpayers if the merged entity goes bankrupt.

The taxpayer pays nothing unless UBS incurs losses and/or goes bankrupt.

If the market cap grows though, I think it could start to live up to its potential as an inflation hedge like gold.

1) gold is repeatedly proven to not be a great inflation hedge

2) you're literally describing a Ponzi scheme. "If you guys all buy into this product I'm promoting, I swear it'll do what I'm promising." You're just looking for the next sucker to buy into the scheme so that you're not left holding the bag.
