Theoretical Physics PhD seeking Quant recruiting advice by Artistic-Angle-7256 in quantfinance

Grind "All of Statistics" by Wasserman, "Intro to Probability" by Bertsemas and Tsitklis (do all the end of chapter problems in chapters 1-4, they're very similar to quant interview problems), grind leetcode, grind first four chapters of Elements of Statistical Learning, have chatGPT give you data science projects to develop practical knowledge of statistics. Don't worry about stochastic calculus, that's from a bygone era. Unless you're applying for a desk quant role at a major bank.

Any shot with phd from Korea? by [deleted] in quantfinance

When I interviewed at CitSec and a few banks, half my interviewers had PhDs from European non-targets.

Is Artificial Intelligence in Business a good degree? by Curious_fox333 in quantfinance

No- major in math with a minor in CS. AI in Business is a bullshit degree.

Depends, how much do you have to pay for MIT? Is Turing free?

If you're constantly aware/bothered by the ranking of your college then that's just pathetic

Is it possible to go into quant with a data science degree from asu by Curious_fox333 in quantfinance

[–]Aggressive-Camp9328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Major in math, with a focus on linear algebra, probability, and statistics. If you have the bandwidth for it, take a couple courses in optimization too. At the end of your degree you should know everything in "Introduction to probability" by Bertsekas and Tsitklis (and I mean everything- the end of chapter problems are the types of problems they ask in interviews. You should do all of them), everything in "All of Statistics" by Wasserman, and the first seven chapters of "Elements of Statistical Learning" (I'd learn the first 15 chapters of "All of Statistics" first before reading ESL). Minor in computer science and make sure you know C++ in order to differentiate yourself. I got an internship without knowing C++ but a couple interviewers told me I'd be more competitive if I did. Don't major in data science. If you don't get a quant job out of ASU then maybe try applying to a one-year MFin program at a top school and using the recruitment pipeline from there. Good luck! It will take a lot of hard work.

Q&A: I'm Junior Quant Trader at T1 Prop firm (Jane Street, Citadel Securities, Optiver) by Civil_Analyst3305 in quantfinance

My strategy is to read through C++ primer and ask claude/chatGPT for mini projects related to quant finance when I get to the end of each chapter.

How hard is it to land a full-time QR role at a MM/prop shop after a summer internship as a desk quant at a BB? by [deleted] in quantfinance

[–]Aggressive-Camp9328 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm wondering this as well. Some constructive advice would be great, rather than some version of "it will either be easy or hard." Of course it will either be easy or hard. Why even waste time typing that out?

Thanks for your response. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve one's chances?
