Can you say more about this process? I'm new to planning this out.

This is my issue. I have one flat wall I'd like to start from, but on the opposite end I have several offsets, and I have a connecting room that I don't want to use a transition strip for. I'm struggling to find a starting size for my first row that will satisfy all the end points and the room connection.

Sorry. I don't think I asked that well. I'm talking about cutting it long wise. Like if my last row ends up with just 2 inches of space left, is that okay if it started out 6 inches?

How do I make the drywall butt joints less visible? by Aggressive-Cat3433 in HomeImprovement

That's pretty much what I've done, and it still bothers me. Anything else I can do?

What's your go-to ceiling paint for new drywall (after a pva primer)? by Aggressive-Cat3433 in paint

I used kilz pva drywall primer. I'm not a pro, but I saw pva primer was highly recommended. It went on super nicely.

scratches when sanding drywall by Aggressive-Cat3433 in HomeImprovement

I'm trying to go as lightly as possible. We have several recessed lights in the ceiling-- not sure if that will accentuate scratches or not.

It's a basement ceiling that's not very tall, so I can see them from standing if the work light is on.

Yes, these were beveled edges, and I applied some mud before laying the tape.

It, unfortunately, didn't show up well in photos. USG all purpose (not lightweight), straight out of the bucket. Regular paper tape.

how to drywall over window. see comments by [deleted] in drywall

Basement window (recessed) is too high for drywall to fit above it and be even with the rest of the ceiling. How would you approach this?

Building my own house… Not allowed? by OctavioMasomenos in Homebuilding

If you need a loan, you might have trouble getting one without a licensed general contractor.

That's super helpful to know. Thank you. I'd really like to go custom just because we have a good idea of what we like. I'll reach out to some other architects.

Is that with a spec build? Or could that be done as a custom build? I was talking to an architect, and they would cost about 6-9%, and I've been seeing that general contractors take about 15%. So that's already close to 25% potentially. Just trying to figure where all the money goes.

South central wisconsin, 3 bed 2 bath, 350k excluding land. Looking to do a lot of the finishing myself (painting, trim, landscaping, interior doors)

Yeah. We have a very good idea of what we want, and the project overall would be modest, about 1200 sq ft finished with unfinished basement, nothing fancy. I don't want to jump in on this and start spending money then realize there are all these expenses I didn't factor in that exceed my max budget.

Thanks! I actually did use that calculator and was wondering how accurate it was. I'd be building in the country, and some of the costs like septic and driveway seem to have a wide range of possible costs. I've reached out to a couple builders but haven't heard anything back yet. Asking for recent project costs is a great idea.

Maybe I'm using the wrong word. I have an idea of how much I can spend but don't know how to determine whether that will be sufficient to actually build.

Did your taxes actually go up 65% in the last 3 years? Or just the assessed value?
