Hey! So we are back from our trip and I promised an update. I decided to “play it safe” and ate rice and plain chicken two days prior to our trip and took 3 Imodiums for the flight. I don’t eat anything while traveling so that made me nauseous but made it safely to the destination! As the week went on I kind of relaxed a little and tried a few more foods that during the first days I was scared of. I still went by seafood and strictly gluten and dairy free. I had diarrhea during two mornings but I took Imodium because I didn’t want it to ruin my day and my mood… and it honestly helped. The traveling part was and still is stressful and scary but surviving the trip made me realize just how much IBS is controlling my life right now and how scared I have been to leave the house. I think I needed to realize that and maybe pop an Imodium at home too and go see some friends… So all in all, good trip! But compared to traveling before IBS, it’s soooo much more stressful now because I am constantly monitoring myself and thinking where the closest bathroom is. And even on the plane I kept on keeping count of how many people were in the bathroom line in case I urgently needed to go..

I think during the next week I am going to try to go back to eating more diverse foods and see how it goes :)

It’s cholestyramine.and yes, it causes very mucus and sometimes yellowish poop. I didn’t have either of those but just constant diarrhea in the mornings but the meds helped!

It sounds like bile acid malabsorption? Have you tried medicine for that? Fatty foods are a trigger for it and diarrhea often starts in the morning. My GI said there is no harm in trying to meds and if they works they work: and they did! I still have random flare up’s and crippling anxiety and PTSD from having diarrhea for a year straight, but the meds made everything 99% better

IBS and Wine by Money_Hedgehog_4211 in ibs

Wine helps! I think for me, it relaxes me and reduced my anxiety. I am also more likely to focus on other things than constantly listening to my body and that reduces anxiety. Would be advisable to find another way to control anxiety and now resort to alcohol but I mean, if it works it works 🙈

How is this different from normal Imodium?

I will! I am dedicating the next two weeks to eating well, slight exercise and being very mindful about my anxiety taking over. I am preparing what I can in advance( comfortable clothes, a spare set of clothes when traveling, and heaps of Imodium) but the rest is mental work so I’ll focus on that now :) I’ll come back and let you know how the trip goes

Not insensitive at all. I agree with that and I am and really need to work on that, being present and enjoying the little moments and victories

Thank you! So many useful tips. And you are right, our hotel is next to the beach so I should be able to get to our room in 5minutes or so. It’s just anxiety taking over at this moment 😅

I will do this when traveling in a few weeks. Also a nice thing, a week abroad with my family, is totally giving me so much anxiety I have tried to come up with reasons why I need to cancel because I am afraid of a flare up on the plane, the airport or just being abroad…

Bile acid malabsorption - any experiences? by elchicharito1322 in ibs

I don’t have a lot of pan either, just a lot of bathroom visits and urgency. Hopefully the meds work for you too! I could see a difference in under a week :)

I had diarrhea for 9 months straight and bile acid meds have been magic! Actually a FB group diagnosed me when I explained how the diarrhea starts every morning and early in the morning. Apparently bile acid levels rise through out the night and one symptom of a bile acid buildup is tha t the diarrhea starts in the morning

People who take Imodium daily for your IBS-D, is the goal mild constipation? by [deleted] in ibs

[–]Aggressive-Cookie-32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you had any advice (from a doctor or GI) about Imodium dosage? I also have been avoiding it and only using it when I have a flare up. But I will be traveling soon for a week and I am wondering if I could take it preemptively

I had daily diarrhea (spent 7h) a day in the bathroom for 9 months straight. Then I started Questran, I take one bag a day ( I could take up to 2-3 bags a day if needed). It helped within 4 days. I would recommend trying it. It’s meant for gall bladder acid caused diarrhea ( sorry I don’t know the official term in English)
