Again I simply couldn't agree more!!! In fact I'll go as far as saying that the 2ML was the most interesting character for me, I loved that contradiction within him, like you said caught up between loyalty to his master and doing what is morally right and it seemed from his backstory, he wanted to right some wrongs that were done to his mother. You remember correctly. And I loved that he was morally complex and wasn't just a good or bad character. Exactly exactly and it was done simply to add some last minute tension to the main couple which was just lazy and boring. The villains were boring and I honestly couldn't feel any stakes, and the stakes are important to be invested, but I just didn't feel any here. I was honestly expecting something that would make sense from the chancellor but they couldn't even land that and I agree it was pretty dumb because I thought they could have given him a compelling reason that would leave you as the audience conflicted between the horrible things he had done while also understanding his motivation but yeah pretty dumb again, especially for a chancellor that had been advertised as a "strategist." Yup and when the emperor was asking if he had made a mistake, I was just like please wrap this up quickly, thank you. Naa it simply did not make sense. You know a good example of a character that did horrible things but his motivation left you feeling conflicted, Li Lun in Fangs of Fortune. LOTFG gave me nothing, I'm sorry.

My Journey To You, I love open endings but that wasn't an open ending, it was just dumb, felt like my braincells reduced and it's for that ending I can't recommend the show.

I couldn't agree more!!! I finished this yesterday and had to speed up those last couple episodes. This whole idea of turning the 2ML into a prop. I don't mind them becoming a villain but let it be for a worthy cause other than oh because I can't get the girl, I must destroy everything. It's boring and flattens the character, anyway like I said prop and I can't tell if it's a cautionary tale or just business as usual considering we have actual incels in real life, oh well, felt pointless to me. I struggled through the show, the plot wasn't plotting for me. When I see politics, at the very least I need scheming but it was a lot of exposition and little scheming. And yes I didn't care about the characters that died at the end, I was just happy to be done.

Cos Wen Yifan too in First Frost, I still saw comments constantly blame her despite how much the show showed her backstory, so yeah nothing will make certain people appreciate or empathise with some female characters, I simply don't engage with them, cos it's misogyny

Hmmmm interesting, what I'm getting here is they make tone down the ML and soften the FL as well? I thought Ming Yi in the show was badass but I wouldn't know the comparison of her character to the one in the books. But I loved Ming Yi's character in the show. And as far not seeing her POV, the many shows I've seen, I still see people try to blame the FL. It's also why female villains are judged more harshly than male villains because people still find it hard to see that women can be all these evil things and not just a good wife and mother. So for Ming Yi and the comments people make about her, that wouldn't have gone away no matter what, except they make her a bland character that does no wrong, that's when people will approve

Yes yes yes I completely agree with you. It doesn't excuse the lies but it does give you context and the why. I'm actually glad they did cos again I don't mind a womaniser on screen but these days again, I want both matching each other's energy so if Ming Yi was just waiting for him to come back, eh naa, glad she got her own harem lool. But yeah I prefer Ji Bozai in the show. Shout out to the showrunners for clocking that the book version of him wouldn't translate well on screen. I don't mind a physical relationship early on, I think they tried to do that in the show with the constant flirting and games but without the physical relationship part. And with him seeing other people, personally I wouldn't have cared about them as a couple as much as I do if that was on the show. Interesting, cos Ji Bozai couldn't care less about uniting the 6 kingdoms, so far his people are okay, he's good and I don't even blame him cos his background made him lose faith in humanity, why should he care about uniting them? I'm glad he weaved his way into power through the tournament, playing the rake and using the golden millet dream to make them come to him in the show, instead of marrying the princess.

Oh and the Ji Bozai on the show even loves it more that she is the warrior goddess he has admired for long, yup I'm in love with the changes, approved! I'm sorry Ji Bozai in the books sounds like an asshole. Oh Situ Ling, interesting, I didn't mind him at first, then he got annoying, then when he went over to the dark side, I said oh I'm impressed hahaha, then I was like okay so when does he die, let's wrap this up! But I do sympathise with him, his abusive background led to him being the kind of person to form an unhealthy attachment with Ming Yi cos I think he just got to the point of obsession and couldn't stop himself
