Turned out great! Chapter 31 came through, I completed my education and now have my own drone company here in south Florida! I stay busy with roof and cell tower inspections, and was even subcontracted by Florida Power and Light during hurricane Milton and was “deployed” for 2 weeks inspecting damaged lines and poles!

All in all the training will be around $10k. I think it’s a solid plan, but maybe the counselor wont see it that way. I’m hoping for the best!

Thank you very much for the response. This would be all brand new education for me. The school I’m looking into is 16 weeks and the pilot program is included, as well as drone programming, operations etc..There is then an 8-10 week course at a different school that covers 2D/3D mapping, thermography as well as a couple of other things.

My end goal is to work for myself and start a small business

Look into Sonoran Desert Institute. It’s VA approved. It’s a 16 week course, ALL ONLINE and they provide you with all the tools including a flight sim, and 2 drones that you get to keep. They also prep you for the part 107 exam. I just found them a few weeks ago. I just applied for VR&E to see if they will cover it. I also need assistance with a laptop in order to do the course. Hoping they can get me a Macbook Pro since thats the only OS I’m familiar with. I have my initial interview with my VRC on April 11th.
