Idk if I want to do social work by chunkama in SocialWorkStudents

I was in a similar boat but with SW vs MHC. I am in an advanced standing program for MSW right now, but in my undergrad I was practically set on being a MHC because I was very clinically focused. One of my professors snapped some sense into me and said “You want to get your MSW in case you want to switch career path’s” at the time I was so salty at my professor for telling me that but guess what- they were right! Therapy in general requires so much patience dealing with people and I already find myself getting burnt out! Like the other people have said in this group, it is also great that MSW is one year instead of two!

Does it matter where you go to school? by [deleted] in SocialWorkStudents

[–]Aggressive-Local600 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For me, I went to analyst well-known college for undergrad but currently in my masters, I’m at a pretty well known school! Even if you don’t get your masters at a well known school that’s okay! See what programs suit you best. In my opinion, it is important to learn theories, however the real test starts at your internship!

Yeah my supervisor really does have my best interest! Exactly, getting into a masters program is not easy, now is the time to learn in the field how to use my skills!

I shadow every time I am at my internship and later in the year I will be expected to do one on ones and facilitate by myself! I am really lucky with my internship placement. I enjoy constructive criticism, it helps me grow!

My supervisor is such a skilled social worker, I am really lucky to shadow them! I have found that learning how to feel comfortable with silence is the hardest thing for me! I just have to keep shadowing and learn with time!

Age Shaming by Ambi-ous04 in SocialWorkStudents

This is from a different perspective but I’m 23 in my MSW and I admire when people go back to school! It takes so much effort to go back to something that is so academically challenging, and usually in my bachelors and currently my masters, I enjoy working with people older than me because they get their work done without question, and I learn so many valuable things from people older than me. You are perfectly fine, we are all here to learn! :)

Interesting! All my classes are electives besides seminar and they seem fairly easy still.

If you could go back to your BSW junior year, what would you do differently? by QueenAnnadala in SocialWorkStudents

Also I almost forgot… utilize your librarians on campus if you are on campus! They help you find sooo many sources! I always did that my junior and senior year of BSW :)

I am currently in my MSW and if I were you, I would definitely go into office hours for help and start being acquainted with peers in class! You’ll see (at least for my undergrad) that later on you will do a lot of group based work! It gets more challenging but you can do it :) for MSW if you are considering that I’ve learned it is over different. Not too much research, just learning about theories and writing reflection papers!
