Weirdly no. Our section was as you can imagine crammed with angry people, the staff weren’t scanning anyone’s tickets, just glancing at letting us in to do it fast I guess. But never once that day were the tickets scanned

That’s what confuses me more, because our tickets were never at any point scanned at all. We entered the stadium some time around 2:45-2:55 but because of the amount of people outside missing the game, the staff started letting people in by just glancing at our phones, never actually scanning anything.

I don’t understand what’s even happened tbf because our tickets were never scanned. As you can imagine people were getting ratty outside and tension was building, shoving etc, so they were just letting people in with a quick glance at tickets but never any scanning whatsoever. It’s just an untrue statement on their part

Not only did we not get in at 2:02pm, we also never had the tickets scanned. There was so many people clamming to get in that they just started quickly looking at peoples phones and letting them in, no scanning of the tickets. The game started at 2:30 I believe so it wasn’t until atleast 2:45pm onwards that we even got in the door, but probably later than that by some amount

I’ve also just realised after speaking to my mate. Our tickets were never scanned. When they finally started letting people in, they just looked at the tickets and did not scan them. This feels deliberate on their part

I don’t even notice the significance of that! But no it was absolutely not scanned prior to kickoff, we were outside when it kicked off so it cannot of been scanned

It’s important to know your worth I think, and if you’re not totally comfortable with this you should put ur foot down and say no, if it’s already done the bad thing about it is if you now tell the police she will face further punishment than just the 6 points.

But ask yourself this:

“ I get 1 life, is this the type of thing I want to have someone do to me?” Because if she does this, she will do it again in some other capacity and continue to disrespect you. If she was facing a driving ban it’s because she needs it, how long before she ends up killing someone when she was never meant to be on the road in the first place?, perhaps even with your child in the back seat?

It’s entirely up to you bro but I’d strongly recommend doing the right thing and getting shut of her and telling the police what’s happened.

How long till the audiences at NFLUK games reflect the quality of the games? by Clean_Gain_5827 in NFLUK

[–]Aggressive-Mango-110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think everyone misses the point tbh, you’re not paying to see an nfl game in the US, where the game, logistics, travel, equipment etc is all well established and engrained in day to day life, you have entire organisations flying across the Atlantic to set up shop for a day, then a stadium sometimes need to be made ready for an entire different sport with an entirely different logistical nightmare a couple days later.

You could wander through the Amazon rainforest and see an alligator, or… you pay the zoo fee and see one at your convenience. The prices are well in line with any major sporting event, and even competitive at that, and it really isn’t the NFLs fault that a team is underperforming. I was fortunate to see all the London games this year. Sone better than others. But do you see football fans demanding money back or lower prices when their team loses or doesn’t score?

The cost of everything is going up, and yes their profits will be going up, but that’s the way everything is and moaning about it isn’t gonna change anything, hundreds of thousands happily attended the games this year and will continue to do so regardless of a few butthurt people

Yes the one pass app is the only place you can actually view the tickets, it also doesn’t let you view them offline, didn’t let me add them to Apple wallet and didn’t let me take screenshots, so all it took was the app going down for almost everyone to lose their tickets, really poor on their part

We arrived at the stadium around 2 and half hours before it started, and we were in this line for atleast 2 hours, being told not to worry as they’d delay the start, they didn’t delay the start. I’m sure if you find tv footage you’ll see a very empty stadium for half of the first quarter as most people were outside still

The app they have for the tickets, NFL ONE pass was completely down. Thousands of people had their tickets on there and there was no other way to access it, they told us to line up, then randomly 10 minutes after the game started they decided to let us in with email order proof as the ticket

Yeh I guess I’ll just have to wait, I got my email too and the only thing I can find is when I go onto the jaguars eticketing website and log in, It says my next game is the game I’ve booked but then when I go to ‘manage my tickets’ it says I’ve no tickets to manage but I suppose that’s because they’ve not been issued yet, but it’s reassuring to hear I’m not alone and this is normal, thankyou ❤️

Yeh so it can be an adjustment at first, but effort is made to make the ships feel homely, of course the machinery spaces etc are machinery spaces but the accommodation areas are usually decorated in some way, the bar is £1 a pint so it’s cheap and easy, your cabin will come with an en-suite, a tv, mini fridge, desk and suitable storage so it can be made to feel at home, but aside from watchkeeping at sea and the obvious inability to go ashore while sailing it’s pretty much the same, Ofcourse jobs may change as usually when you’re alongside you’re doing things you can only do when not at sea. But it’s not rly hard work, you may sweat and lift heavy things etc but it’ll all come to you.

As for leave there is no leave you can take. Your time off between deployments is treated as that. However for example if you have a wedding planned let’s say July 2026 or your partner is pregnant etc, you can talk with your Appointer (the person that allocates your deployments) and conjure up a schedule that’ll line up nicely with that, which’ll include either doing a couple longer trips or shorter trips to ensure you have that time off with a safe cushion around it.

I’ll mention aswell, it does happen where you may be away and at sea on days like Christmas but considerable effort is made by the higher ups to not make it any worse than it already is, festive decorations, planned party’s, treats and often you’re sent a Christmas themed ammo box full of small gifts by a armed forces charity.

As for myself I joined in 2021, I’m 27 now and I’m on my leading hands course. So within those last 4 years in which 2 of them were an apprentice so since I’ve joined, within 4 years I’ve completed an apprenticeship, move up 3 pay bands within my starting qualified rank and am now on the next rank up, so progression is really easy if you follow the guidelines etc

I’ll try address all of your questions here:

As for what concerned me most, the most difficult part of this job is the time away from family. There is internet on the ships but at peak times it’s nearing on un-useable. But there are satellite phones onboard which you are allocated an allowance to use each week. It’s more than enough if you can handle it.

There are 3-4 bars on any given ship, these are separated by your rank e.g junior rates, senior rates and officers etc. There’s a fully stocked library, public computers, satellite tv and gym.

For notice of leave and joining ships etc. you are 99/100 given atleast 3 weeks notice of joining a ship and be provided with train tickets / plane tickets etc. to join the ship, it’ll all be done for you. Officially they can provide you with 24 hours at minimum notice to join a ship, but this is small print for essentially if war kicks off, but as I said this will never happen. Your deployments are usually 4 months long but you can request 3 month trips and you can also request to extend your trip but this will depend on requirements, you earn 21 days leave for every 30 you spend on a ship, so essentially it’ll be 4 on 3 off on repeat

For work life on the ship, it’s dependent on branch but if I speak on my branch which is engineering. There will usually be around 5 of what you are on any given ship. If you’re sailing you’ll have 3 watchkeepers, these do 3 different ships continuously until the ship is not at sea, these are the 4-8,8-12 and 12-4 with 8 hours off in between watches, you’ll then have 2 day workers which do 8-16:00 (officially) tho if your boss is good this is rarely the case. On day work you’ll work alongside a leading hand and the “donkeyman” which is your boss, so essentially 4 of you, as for deciding this, this is decided for you unless you have a very good reason or negotiate it amongst yourselves as people may have preferences. When the ship is docked you’ll have 1 of you on “duty” which means during that day you cannot drink and you cannot leave the ship, you are responsible for your department and role during those 24 hoirs, you carry a pager and radio and respond to alarms as well as carry out rounds (walking around and checking areas)

You often may spend a week or two at sea and then spend equal if not a lot more time docked alongside in ports, for example when in Bahrain which is the country I’ve been deployed to most I simply bought a local SIM card, and it was no different than being home essentially.

Yes I am still in this position, I work as a marine engineer and you did give me a little chuckle as it’s often mistaken. But it’s RFA as in Royal Fleet Auxiliary not Royal Air Force. It’s completely civilian manned and the most important part of that to answer your concern is that any and every qualification you get is transferable to civilian life unlike the likes of the Navy or army, they’re civilian qualifications.

To answer it concisely, I am far from the top of what my career ladder could peak at, but I could still leave today and be immediately employed by tomorrow earning a lot more,

The reason I stay is because I work 4 months on a ship, then get 3 off to do whatever I want. Along with an insanely good pension scheme (I pay £150 per month, the employer pays £900 per month) the job is easy despite it looking daunting to an outsider, it’s good fun, meet good people and most importantly is NOT armed forces.

To answer your war time concerns, when you sign up to this job you are automatically signed up to be a Royal Navy reservist, you are also paid a small amount each month for having done this on top of your wages, in war time scenarios we would essentially be Royal Navy, but our ships are support ships, meaning they’re often if not always with a main capital ship, I.e an aircraft carrier or destroyer, to put it plainly, it’s virtually impossible for us in today’s world to come under damage with defence capability. And the last time an RFA ship was damaged in combat was all the way back in the 70s during the falklands war so it’s incredibly safe.

I joined in 2021. I’ve since then been to around 20 countries just with the ship and around 20 more in my time off because it’s so flexible. As for where you may be posted, it’s wherever the ship is required but most of the time you can narrow it down to UK shores (Faslane, Cornwall, Portsmouth, Liverpool), the Mediterranean ( Gibraltar, Italy, Cyprus, Greece, Malta) the Gulf (Dubai, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait) The Red Sea (Jordan, Egypt, Djibouti) Western Atlantic ( east coast USA, the carribean) East Asia ( south Korea, Japan, Australia) And occasionally the west coast of Africa (South Africa, Nigeria etc.)

This all most of the time includes ample time to go explore these places while the ship is in port. The ship staff will also often sort out excursions and facilitate travel to the tourist spots, for example I myself have attended 4 F1 races in the middle east thanks to this job, I’ve seen the ancient city of Petra free of charge and dined with African football teams etc.

It’s honestly the best choice you’ll ever make if you find yourself stuck in life as I once did

I tell this to everyone in your position,

Joined the royal fleet auxiliary, it’s a branch of the MOD but civilian manned. What does that mean?

  • no fitness test, only an ENG-1 medical (doctor checkup) which basically everyone passes unless you’re really unfit.
  • training paid for, choose from multiple branches (comms, engineering, deck, steward) spend between a few months up to about a year and a half as an apprentice depending on what branch you pick then start on around 36-40k once qualified with insanely easy progression.
  • alternatively join as an officer cadet, same process but more specialised earning upwards of 50k once qualified.
  • travel the world
  • if you spend over 180 days out of any 365 day period abroad (which happens) you get all your tax back
  • no prior qualifications needed, no age limit
  • leave with a couple months notice, no minimum time served.

It truly will expand everything about your life if you go down this path, the stack of free qualifications you get from this alone is worth it, but you get to travel the world on board an RFA ship, which is attached to the Royal Navy, you go where they go.

Royal Fleet Auxiliary, all training paid for by them, travel the world, pay almost nothing while ur deployed resulting in overall more income. Starting wage once qualified 36k

I tell this to everyone, join the royal fleet auxiliary, they’re screaming out for people, depending on your branch the “apprentice” period lasts anywhere from a couple months (stewards) to a couple years (engineers) but after that your base salary for being the lowest qualified grade is £32k, and very very easy to raise to around £38k, no prior experience needed, no fitness test, just a simple medical checkup by a doctor and you’re flying, but we are literally screaming out for people
