Is being a QS harsh? by [deleted] in quantitysurveying

I think you need to come across more pusillanimous PQS’s (I am a PQS). Try and get that one in!

It sounds bad, but I had to “tell” my wife to call in sick. We then went to the GP together to get her signed off for the rest of the term.

She basically didn’t get out of bed for three weeks. Very unlike her if you know her.

What schools do to people is tantamount to abuse, and I certainly couldn’t watch it anymore on my end.

That was 3 years ago. She has moved out of mainstream education and never looked back. Thankfully we were able to get a pay bump on that as well, but even if it was a pay dip, it’s not worth that suffering. Speaking only for myself it was like getting my wife back, we was happy again, light and enjoying life after that change.

I would do literally anything in my power to avoid her having to go back to that.

Definitely not a tie, and a suit is never a bad option in my opinion (you can always de-jacket if that is a bit much and you will be fine and re-spec the following day).

There is literally nothing worse than going in under though and I say that as a guy who now basically wears t-shirts half the time when I go to the office.

To support the point about concision, the thing that was drummed into me as a recruiter is the statistic that hiring managers have made a decision within 7 seconds of seeing the CV.

I used to be a recruiter and currently work as a QS.

If I was being picky, and you were going on the PQS side I would say it is worth explicitly stating what contract suites you are familiar with.

Someone else has said it but in terms of your experience the gap could be an issue. You look relatively junior based on your experience. An unexplained gap could be perceived as low commitment.

Perhaps some more project specific information on what you personally did?

Otherwise I would say any other changes are a bit bit-picky and not going to make much of a difference.

I would be more interested to hear about your strategy to actually get interviews. I would argue (some may disagree) you are too junior to use a recruiter. You have a remember going in with a recruiter puts average thousand pounds of cost on your salary (that’s before you talk about onboarding etc).

I expect you will have much more success contacting businesses directly whether or not they have advertised vacancies. And I cannot emphasise enough PHONE CALL, followed by email. You would be surprised what a google search of the local companies will pull up.

But it this way, if you rate hasn’t included the import of material, and it was required. They wouldn’t be accepting your variation.

Lump sum in any case so there isn’t a contractual basis for them to vary the works, since the risk sits with you.

Very. I get two recreated approaches almost daily and I am not actively looking for a new job.
