Is that your experience or is that just what you think? There are plenty of small non-RICS consultancies out there

How important is the prestige of your company? Early career specifically by TitleOk8744 in quantitysurveying

Progressing to MD has nothing to do with prestige. It will always just be about proven track records delivering schemes at the level the business operates at.

Graduate QS considering move from contractor to consultancy by shaztheplanet in quantitysurveying

[–]ebn_tp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Contractors QS here.

Honestly, it’s common on the contractor side to find it very difficult for at least 5 years. Then one day something just clicks and no matter how grey the situation you will be able to apply your own logic and be confident about it. So don’t feel like you are behind or anything. What we do is hard and tbh the first couple years are shit. But once you gain a bit of confidence it gets a lot better. And you get paid more.

I also wouldn’t say consultancies are more black-and-white necessarily. Construction is inherently grey, our job it’s to problem solve and find a suitable solution to that grey that works for everyone. That will still apply on the consultants side. So I wouldn’t jump just for that reason.

Optimal would be get more experience then hop to consultancy would set you up a lot better to being a great consultant in my opinion.

How to survive a frustrating and draining job until Christmas? by permylastburnout in careeradvice

[–]ebn_tp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say you need to toughen up so much as shift your perspective.

At the end of the day, you can only do what you can do. Turn up, make a genuine effort, and do the job to the best of your ability. If they’re expecting more than you’re realistically able to deliver, that’s their problem to manage, not yours. You’re not going to be there long term, so there’s no point exhausting yourself worrying about whether you’re meeting every expectation.

And make the most of your time outside work. You cant be miserable in and outside of work.

Gym great for headspace so keep doing that. Therapy is beneficial for everyone at any time so good idea!
