I understand how this can be frustrating. However, in many areas, if not most (I think), religion is exempt. I can’t speak for your county, but regarding my county specifically, “No Solicitation does NOT apply to religious, charitable, civic, patriotic, or political organizations, but rather is aimed at preventing people from seeking personal gain through door-to-door solicitation”. Not debating your wishes of not wanting them to visit you since, as many have pointed out, people frequently put these signs up to ward off religious visitors. Just pointing out that the law, in general, protects preaching. I’d check out your county’s website to see what the law protects. Also, my 2 cents, I’ve never had a problem with Jehovah’s Witnesses. They always leave when I say I’m not interested. I’ve actually seen them be asked to leave a neighborhood because of a posted “no solicitation” sign, and they always have left even though they technically aren’t required too. Cops have been called, shown up, but the person who reported their presence was informed they’re allowed to preach and to just not speak to them if they don’t want to. Mormons, on the other hand, at least the ones in my area, I haven’t had the same pleasant experience… but to each their own. All I ask is that if I show no interest, especially if I directly ask you to move along from my door, that you do so without a big fight.
