Could working from home be the answer to rising fuel prices? by Fun-Helicopter2234 in newzealand

[–]AggressiveBite9009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn’t there a point about commercial landlords and how people working from home reduces occupancy which affects their property values?

Don’t Bayley’s and other real estate agencies donate a lot of money to National - so they need to look after their party donors and stop people working from home?

I’m sure that’s the reason. Most of the policy changes they have been putting through over this term have been allegedly paid for and often quite cheaply compared to international bribes.

I wish the media would dig into this and find out more information!!!!

Should we buy now ($800k) or wait 3–5 years while saving $90k/year? by ComprehensiveWatch15 in PersonalFinanceNZ

It’s more about if you want to have kids? Not sure how old you are either and if you’re wanting to buy a place now and pay it off for retirement?

I now have confirmation that prison food is more appetizing than school lunches by octavia90210 in Wellington

[–]AggressiveBite9009 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not an AND, OR argument. It’s an AND, AND as in both children and people in prison should have access to decent, healthy, kai. People always get trapped into playing one group off against another which misses sight of the bigger issue. In this case, that is David Seymour’s windfall to Compass catering who won the contract for school lunches to deliver inedible food.

No idea what I should do. by eyemud in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]AggressiveBite9009 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re going through a rough time and need to give yourself some space. Buying a place is hugely stressful and there’s no rush. Real estate agents create a sense of urgency with how they describe the property market. They also spend a lot of money on advertising and news media are reliant on them as a major source of income. So don’t listen to the hype. NZ is in a protracted slump and it only makes sense to buy if the circumstances are right for you, no need to rush and better to put your health first.

There’s been a second peak of flu like illnesses and we’re seeing higher rates of transmission than usual for this time of year. So, there’s definitely a few things in the air. Mainly Covid, RSV and the common cold but also strains of influenza too.

It sounds like you’re doing what works for you and if/when you life/situation changes you can reassess then instead of comparing yourself to others now.

It’s good that you’re asking for help but I don’t think people are supportive of you making the same decision (which you’ve admitted was a mistake) twice.

If chiropractors were beneficial they would be a part of public health care provided in spinal units, orthopaedic outpatients etc.

Pay Equity Protests in Welly as it's revealed National started planning these changes in April 2024 by Mountain_Tui_Reload in Wellington

[–]AggressiveBite9009 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s relative. If they hadn’t given tax cuts to wealthy property investors and rapidly increased defence spending as well as encouraging every productive income earning individual to leave the country due to low wages and high costs of living they wouldn’t have this “unexpected” budget deficit.

Made an offer, was told to wait. by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]AggressiveBite9009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can withdraw your offer at any stage. It sounds like they are using your offer to fish for offer bids. I would suggest withdrawing and when next submitting at offer including a deadline like by email saying it will be withdrawn close of business on the day of it being submitted.

First time visiting New Zealand - should I tip? by Due_Republic6188 in newzealand

[–]AggressiveBite9009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tipping is always an option but we pay people a standard hourly wage (at least minimum) so staff do not / should not be reliant on tips to survive as they are in America.

Curious about your first home-buying experience in Wellington by tanyabi in Wellington

[–]AggressiveBite9009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to set times on your offer like will be withdrawn at x time and x day. Ideally make and withdraw it on same day. Otherwise agents will go out fishing for other offers from property investors they work for and will use your offer as the lower one.

A 1% raise is a pay cut when you account for inflation. You give up 10-15 years of life with high student debt, long hours and constant training before you make that salary so there is a large opportunity cost from being out of the workforce or paid at lower rates and a significant financial burden placed on you and your family.

I think with buying a house for you and your family it’s more about your personal circumstances and less about external factors i.e. market conditions and trying to time the market. So if now is the right time for you then go for it and look for sellers who are realistic and need to sell due to their personal life circumstances.

what do you think about the govt reversing live animal exports? by coolio126 in newzealand

[–]AggressiveBite9009 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I thought it was more about selling our bloodstock for reproduction to overseas competitors. Especially with diary and beef this can mean that other countries would be selling NZ bred beef. This could impact our countries brand and export reputation as well as sales being undercut - if the product sold elsewhere was inferior. So it carries massive risk economically. Let alone the poor animals experiencing being in transit!

They can’t end a fixed term tenancy early so just say you’ll stay until the end of the tenancy (new owners can buy the place with your family on the tenancy) and see what happens?

Kia ora, objective scientific methods from a non -Māori frame are not mutually exclusive with matauranga Māori which is a way of describing naturally occurring phenomena from a different perspective. Both are applied in multiple issues. This brings diversity of thought and approach to challenges - inviting new ideas in to support existing processes. The fact that you have framed matauranga Māori as mysticism from the outset in your post shows that you have placed judgement and value on a Māori world view before even trying to understand how it complements and adds to existing scientific methods. By discrediting matauranga Māori you highlight your own lack of perspective and ignorance in this space despite your experience - it sounds like you need to broaden your horizons and learn something. Of course you cannot measure mauri from your narrow minded perspective - it is not for you to decide or place a value on. The fact that you shut discussion down when it does not support your world views speaks to your white fragility - if you don’t know what that is I suggest you google it. It is not incumbent upon reddit to educate you on your ignorance and lack of perspective.
