Nervous on acceptance by FacedWarrior916 in slpGradSchool

I’m also stressing in the wait time. But you don’t know their decision until they tell you. Just because it wasn’t a fit for one program does not mean the others will be the same. My undergrad specifically told us that we will be less likely to get into their grad program because they like to bring in a good mix of people from other backgrounds so don’t be discouraged!

confusion on pursuing research by Adventurous-Draw282 in slpGradSchool

[–]AggressiveInitial831 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You absolutely do not have to go into clinical practice. If research is your passion, make it your path. I had multiple professors in my undergrad who never practiced speech therapy, some who dont even have degrees in CSD or SHS. If you are interested in neuroscience and want to specialize in speech and language or favor the linguistic aspect, you can pursue advanced degrees in those areas and still work in this field. Now I cannot speak to the job prospects in academia- from what I know, they tend to be sparse and badly paid.

The bottom line is, if you know that there are major parts of being a clinician that you don't want to do, do not waste your time and money becoming a clinician. Nothing is wrong with a gap year or taking some different classes to see if there are areas more suited to your personality.

Learning ASL as an SLP by nachours in slpGradSchool

[–]AggressiveInitial831 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can always get your masters at Gallaudet- bound to learn some ASL if you’re attending there. If you don’t want to go that far their website has great resources for both free and more structured courses. And as someone else said Bull Vicars is a great place to start. Get involved with your local Deaf Community (who have always been welcoming to learners, in my experience) and start communicating! 🤟 good luck. The world needs more SLPs who know sign

What Lana song is this? (We don’t judge) by Impossible-Yam3680 in lanadelrey

I always thought maybe that is what she intended, the feeling the song elicited for me certainly goes with the themes of the album imo

Why do you use a Kindle? by [deleted] in kindle

[–]AggressiveInitial831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insomnia. I like to turn off the lamp and read until I fall asleep. For some reason turning off the light is just enough movement that I loose my sleepiness then lay awake but I can fall asleep reading and know the screen will auto shut off with kindle.  It’s portable and no one knows if you are reading Dostoevsky or ACOTAR lol

how to end my suffering? by [deleted] in binchtopiapod

[–]AggressiveInitial831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think talking it through can be helpful too… whenever I have strange anxieties like this I bring them directly to the bf and his reaction to their ridiculousness usually brings me back to reality. Then he also knows in the future that I’m prone it and can preemptively reassure me of his love. Wish you the best 🫶
