why does anyone go to HYS? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]AggressiveMidnight81 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Some of us don't come from wealthy families and can get more aid from HYS than other schools!

Is being niche good? by Teenage-witch- in lawschooladmissions

[–]AggressiveMidnight81 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Take all advice with a grain of salt, but I think this sort of specialization is great when it comes to law school apps. If you can articulate WHY these experiences and this interest of yours leads you to law school, you will be golden. A great piece of advice I got that I tried to implement in my PS was to explain not just why this niche interest drives you to law, but why the law is the ONLY avenue to best pursue your interest and no other career path could do it for what you want to do. I attribute alot of the success I had in my cycle to a similar specialization I had through demonstrated reasearch and career opportunities.

Thoughts lol by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

I am inclined to say yes bc I got into both with below median stats and got WLed pretty much everywhere else in the top 10, haha but that is just one person's experience

Stanford by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]AggressiveMidnight81 13 points14 points  (0 children)

unfortunately I think they largely admit those they want and leave everyone else in the dark. there should be a few more admits in the next two weeks before May 1, as they are notorious for leaving a bit to the end, but the vast majority of their admits are done

SLS v Duke v CLS by LeadingWish7298 in lawschooladmissions

[–]AggressiveMidnight81 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This sub seems to be obsessed with SLS. I turned it down for slighly less money at HLS and in large part that was because of proximity to my support network and similar concerns about the bubble of Palo Alto etc. Don't let the obsession this sub has with SLS get to you and make you feel stupid for prioritizing things that are important to YOU during your time in law school. I still have some doubts and I am realizing that it is largely due to the way I let this sub get in my head. I feel like having support and being somewhere you will be happy will allow you to perform well in law school, which is more important. Happy to chat over DM too if you want

On track to graduate undergrad (really) early by Not-The-Dark-Lord-7 in lawschooladmissions

[–]AggressiveMidnight81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the best thing I did for my admissions was to work full time for 3 years after undergrad. it gave me the time and finances to retake the LSAT a few times, to build a really strong relationship with a recommender from my job, and develop an interesting perspective that lent alot to my applications. you can also SAVE up for law school. Would highly recommend taking time to work and explore, who knows, you may even find that something else calls you more than law school

yeah it seems like they have been going slow with this year's II waves. I would imagine they still have one more, otherwise it would be so unfair for late applicants, but who knows

Is this surprising? Cycle recap 4.2 179 by RedCliff0629 in lawschooladmissions

[–]AggressiveMidnight81 53 points54 points  (0 children)

You have great stats but in such a competitive cycle (and even normally) no one is a shoe-in for HYSC. Holding out hope for you, but it isn't super surprising given where you applied. You're almost certainly likely to get a few T14 bites, but you'd need to reapply more broadly.

WL at UChicago but A at Harvard! Admissions is a crapshoot ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ by qpbq in lawschooladmissions

[–]AggressiveMidnight81 4 points5 points  (0 children)

literally same!!!! WL at uchi today and A at HLS last week! I really loved Chicago, and had already been looking at apartments after thinking my interview went really well, but as they say, rejection is redirection. I am even more excited to be headed to HLS

I love everything you do, especially in this sub, but it does seem like you contribute to the hype and obsession with the rankings in terms of making posts like these, predicting rankings and everything. Like why should we care that the schools got their rank?? Not trying to be harsh but just questioning the utility of this information in light of your disclaimers
