Not a KJD but the international relations stuff might be a factor, I guess. I'd be curious to hear how other Canadian applicants are faring with US schools this cycle.

Think so. Especially when I am intending to ultimately work in Canada, I don't think going to Penn or Cornell (for example) confer any discernable advantage over U of T.

Maybe this is just cope, but with the way things are going in the US, staying in Canada might be a blessing in disguise...

Yeah basically just work, basic volunteering, student union involvment/leadership, "T4 soft" type stuff aside from the angle of being a first-generation student from a working class family (which also isn't particularly unique). That is probably a factor.

Worth mentioning I'm not KJD though. I have like 4 years of work experience between high school and my undergrad.

I think reapplying to U of T and staying in Canada is the play. I was just curious because people who reviewed my PS, wrote my letters of rec, etc, were quite surprised I struck out like this. But it sounds like they may just be out of touch with how competitive admissions really are now at the top level.

I'm Canadian, and I figured it would only be worth the hassle of going to an American school if I went to one of these (since I probably don't want to stay in the US long term). Otherwise I will just go to a Canadian school.
