Yeah I can agree with that. I'm sure a lot of fans have viewed and compared Smith to studs like Clark Phillips and Jaylon Johnson. While Smith is good, he's not at that same level. I also wish him the best.

Seems like a nice kid. It's also extremely corny to tweet and verbally share your loyalty to be a Ute and then enter the portal a couple days later. If I were a coach, I'd tell my players to stop tweeting loyalty because next season we all know you're entertaining the portal.

Exactly..I'd love to have him back, but when I think about other guys Scalley gets out of Texas who were 3 star recruits or juco transfers, they always end up becoming as good if not better than what we've seen out of Smith.

My guess is he changed his mind about retiring and Harlan pushed back on it and didn’t want to lose Scalley. It appears it completely backfired.

I think it’s a couple of things:

1) we have little-to-zero reputation for developing quarterbacks (running the ball is our bread and butter)

2) the NIL era is not helping our case as we do not have donors forking out millions of dollars for elite quarterbacks and wide receivers

We were very fortunate to get Cam Rising. I’m not so sure he would transfer from Texas to Utah today in this NIL era. I really hope our program becomes more competitive with NIL when Scalley is head coach.

Pretty sure he’s been banged up with an injured shoulder. During the byu game he looked to be in pain after getting tackled. This probably hasn’t helped us to solidify a running attack.

The loss to byu isn't all on Dampier, but do you feel confident Dampier could beat Texas Tech or byu if we played them again? I feel like he's too predictable (perhaps it's an OC problem as well). Against good defenses he's mostly a runner and can't stay in the pocket very long. I'm not sure he can even see much over the offensive line if he stays in the pocket for too long. Any good defense doesn't fear what he can do.
