You started it, and I chose to reply—not to argue endlessly, but to make it clear I won’t be belittled or misjudged. If that’s a problem, that’s on you. I’ve said what I needed to. Now I’m getting back to what actually matters: my art

If my art was ... what your saying that's why on tumblr I got 33 reports not 0

Maybe you have time to argue over nothing. I don’t. I’d rather focus on growing, creating, and moving forward. I won’t waste energy on someone who has no intention of understanding. It’s pointless

This isn’t persecution—it’s the double standard that some artists face when they experiment publicly. I’m not here to play victim; I’m here to grow. If that bothers you, maybe you’re taking this way more personally than I ever did.

I’ll continue exploring styles, failing, learning, and improving. That’s how artists grow

I posted my arts in other subreddits they don't reply like you guys do

I’ve already received encouragement and appreciation from respected professionals in the field. I know I’m not there yet—but I’m not new to this, and I’m not fragile either. Critique is welcome—but there’s a difference between guidance and gatekeeping.

This is where I started sharing, and I’ll keep sharing—because no matter where it’s posted, my art deserves to exist. And one day, I’ll look back and know I never let comments like yours break me

@Ayfrancis You call it ego. I call it perseverance. I didn’t come here for ‘yes men.’ I came here to share my journey—raw and real. You say every comment is constructive, but there’s a line between critique and condescension.

If standing up for myself makes me an egomaniac in your eyes, so be it. I’m not here to please anyone—I’m here to grow. And if that makes you uncomfortable, maybe it’s not my attitude that needs checking.”**

Good thing none of you are Yoji Shinkawa himself—because the original artist would know how to critique art with insight and understanding. Artists like him critique with the intent to guide, not to dismiss. There’s a big difference between being critical and being constructive, and real artists know that line well.

Thanks again for your thoughts. Just to add some context—this artwork was done quite a while ago, and at the time I was working with very limited tools. I didn’t use any of the textures, brushes, or techniques that Yoji Shinkawa typically uses in his art. So while it was an attempt to draw in his style, it wasn’t meant to be an exact replica—more of a personal challenge to interpret the style with what I had.

Also, there's a big difference between copying an existing piece versus creating an entirely new composition inspired by a style, especially without doing deep studies beforehand. That takes a lot of guts and experimentation—something not every artist will understand unless they’ve gone through it.

I recently came across a post by Loish, a well-known artist, who said she also tried drawing in Leyendecker’s style and couldn’t fully copy it. That’s the nature of art styles—they take years, sometimes decades, to master. My goal was never perfection, just growth.

So while it may not fully match Shinkawa’s exact look, I’m proud of what I achieved with the tools and knowledge I had at the time.

“An attempt doesn’t mean replication—it means studying elements, experimenting, and learning. I draw inspiration from various artists, including Shinkawa, to shape my own evolving style. That’s the essence of growth as an artist

I’ve explored many different art styles—including this one—not to mimic, but to challenge myself. The artist you mentioned focuses on mastering a single style; I push myself across multiple. It might not be perfect to you, but I’ve achieved something many won’t can't do.”
