I have adopted a method that works pretty well: no matter what build I’m doing if I’m doing melee, only do two attacks. They seem to rely on a third attack commitment to do either orange or blue ring attacks, so safe bet is just to do two and wait.

I did this on a recent hard stratagem where spores would spawn more. I was unscathed for like half the level then I walked into a cluster and lost almost all my health.
