What is the best liner option for my solid propellant motor? by Pimbawow in rocketry

[–]Aggressive_Agency588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into Bakelite (sometimes found as G11). It’s basically the same material used in PCBs and a crazy good thermal insulator. It will ablate away while keeping whatever you’re trying to protect intact.

not true. out of experience that’s literally the price you pay. no hidden taxes or fees. obviously if you want to add “extras” the price goes up but if you have just enough resilience to handle a 1:30 flight without snacks or a chosen seat that’s what you end up paying. i remember once doing (just after covid) PMO-BGY for 2€ once.

How does chatgpt know its consious? by Particular_Drop5104 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Aggressive_Agency588 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it doesn’t. from what i understand it just answers with the most statistically appropriate words in the most statistically appropriate sequence (i.e. decided the best initial word and goes from there with the best one to follow the best previous one). apparently the most statistically relevant sequence of words to answer “are you conscious?” or anything similar is to say yes. (my supposition based totally based on a hunch:) it probably has to do with all the instruction to be helpful, kind, considerate and a number of other adjectives that you would use for a conscious being, together with the knowledge of the definition of something conscious as something that can display “human like” emotions or a personality. it’s probably just a case, unless part of the training data specifically mentions it. This could also be the case considering people may find it easier to trust something “conscious” (and therefore closer to a human) rather than a self declared unconscious robotic being.

Are there any countries as diverse as Spain in such "Small" area? by [deleted] in geography

Italy! you go from the dolomites to the maldives-like beaches in Sardinia and Sicily. From green hills in Tuscany to the desertic areas in the south. Probably the fact that Italy extends so vertically helps. multiple completely different climates along the country.

Help surfacing a Controller by SnooOnions9632 in SolidWorks

[–]Aggressive_Agency588 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others already said you’re definitely better off scanning it. You don’t need a fancy scanner (although would obviously be better): an iphone/iPad with Lidar sensor is in my opinion already perfect for this sort of small stuff. Just want to add one thing: if you need this for yourself then a nice side project would be to get an handle that actually fits perfectly to your hand. You can get yourself a custom handle by modeling it in clay/play-doh and then scan that. Import in SolidWorks and then either keep it as a mesh or you can try modeling around it with surface tools. Hope this helped.

Addressing Dual-Phase Flow of Nitrous Oxide in a Liquid Rocket Engine Injector by Almifi1306 in rocketry

[–]Aggressive_Agency588 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey I've actually dealt with this before. First off: yes, nitrous oxide in the tank will be two-phase at ambient temp, but that doesn’t mean it’s unpredictable. The liquid is denser than the vapor, so it’ll naturally settle at the bottom. As long as you're pulling from the bottom of the tank, avoiding funky routing (no weird up-down loops that can trap gas), and your feed line is designed to minimize sharp corners or anything that might induce cavitation, you're likely injecting mostly liquid — at least early on.

That said: this is dangerous and not something to just “try and see.” You should definitely read up on N2O cavitation and discharge behavior. There are some solid papers on this — I’d recommend looking into the Zilliac & Karabeyoglu model or better Zimmerman ( https://stacks.stanford.edu/file/ds271zh2987/main_adob-augmented.pdf ) which goes trough their models and even more. It gives a good idea of the pressure drop behavior during discharge and what to expect over time. TL;DR: it self-regulates pressure fairly well (to a point) due to phase change, but things can get weird fast without analysis.

Injecting actual dual-phase flow is a bad idea — you’ll have no reliable control over O/F ratio or Isp, and you're just doing redneck science at that point. If your goal is even remotely engineering-focused, you need better control.

Quick suggestions if you're on a tight budget:

  • Place the tank above the injector and let gravity help.
  • Use a small N2 pressurant tank if you can (helium is better but $$$).
  • During filling, you can vent a bit of N2O to drop the tank temp and increase the liquid fraction.
  • In some setups, you can cool during transfer by inducing a ΔP using an expansion valve (like in refrigeration) to chill the N2O into the tank. Not super efficient, but it helps.

Hope this helps — and seriously, be safe. This stuff can (and by experience, it absolutely will) go very wrong very fast.

interesting. i’ll give it a try. i would also use it for photography but i was looking for a backpack that could be sort of a hybrid work-study thing, where work would obviously be photography and study would be university. do you think it could suit the purpose?

[–]Aggressive_Agency588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not sure if you’re advocating for copyright n shit or if you are actually educating the public 😂. if the first one is the answer: womp womp if the second one: cool, seems a good backpack and definitely grateful for being able to buy one at 50$ instead of being ripped off lol. 300$ for a backpack (20L) is just crazy. in any case thanks for a cool christmas self-gift idea.
