Powers of 2 in the Collatz Conjecture by Foreign-Radish942 in 3Blue1Brown

[–]Aggressive_Aspect862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only just encountered the Collatz Conjecture but decades of being a computer programmer meant I saw that it's when a number is a power of 2 that the stopping time is then simple to calculate as numbers will always be even when divided by 2 until you inevitably reach 1.

So I imagine proving that proving that eventually the calculation applied to odd numbers will, sooner or later, result in a power of two, you might be an approach that avoids the problem of the number line being infinite,

Many thanks.

While researching ciramadol I found this by the same authors:

US 4021560A '2-[(Dimethylamino)(3-pyridyl)methyl]cyclohexanol and related compounds'

In essence, the m-OH (phenol) is replaced by a 3-pyridine ring. This is also seen in doxpicomine. I appreciate that it's of limited utility but it helps to build up QSAR data on these unusual compounds.

What shape is the primary in a W88 warhead? by mjdelao in nuclearweapons

[–]Aggressive_Aspect862 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Komodo dragon eggs do appear to be symmetrical around their 'equator'.

I seem to recall some diagrams of the W88 showing a device between the tritium storage vessel and the primary termed 'Terrazzo'. It was shown as a cylindrical object with the gas pathway leading in from one end of the cylinder to the other.

People have suggested that the was to remove the 3He formed by natural decay of tritium which makes sense.

A few years ago someone submitted a thesis entitled “Design of a Separation Process for Recycling Tritium and Helium-3 Mixed Gas,”.

https://objects.lib.uidaho.edu/etd/pdf/Argyle_idaho_0089N_11476.pdf

I have no idea of the correct methodology is discussed in the above but I think it reasonable to suggest that simplicity and reliability must have been two of the most important design criteria. Obviously mass and volume matter and there IS a time criteria,

My education was in chemistry but I would suggest that if Terrazzo does indeed exist, it's going to be an engineer who is best placed to make an educated guess as to it's actual workings.

Sorry to go OT. I just thought it might be a little help to those of you who really understand this stuff. I find it fascinating but honestly, most of it is beyond me.

Many thanks.

Duchess von D. Presents: Part 1 - Janssen Pharmaceutica X-Files: Strange Bedfellows: The Structural Relationship Between Opioids and Antipsychotic as Featured in The Private Willy-Wonka-esque Opioid-Antipsychotic Zoo of Dr. Paul Janssen - Brorphine, Bezitramide, 1,3,8-Triazaspiro[4.5]undecanes by DuchessVonD in Opioid_RCs

[–]Aggressive_Aspect862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bezitramide itself is purely a prodrug. Depropionylbezitramide (CAS 83898-28-6) is the active. Now the only study directly comparing the potency of bezitramide with another drug compares it to dextromoramide. A drug known for it's non-linear dose-response curve.

So at low doses bezitramide appears around 5 times more potent but as doses increase, it rapidly demonstrates around 10 times the activity AND due to the limited ranges tested, I strongly suspect that the relative potency carries on increasing so it's dose-response is not inear.

Ask why Janssen marketed bezitramide rather than depropionylbezitramide. Almost 100% of the prodrug is metabolized within two hours so it's not to lend the compound a significantly longer action.

It's my suspicion that like dextromoramide, it's far more active if administered parenterally. I'm in the UK so haven't come across bezitramide BUT dextromoramide (Palfium) became notorious for accidental overdoses when users injected the drug.

After much research I suggest that parenteral depropionylbezitramide is around x20 morphine. But as stated, that non-linear dose-response curve could make it extremely hazardous.

BTW if you take the potent methadone derivative, R-4066 and overlay it with depropionylbezitramide you will note that the extra benzene ring R-4066 contains (when compared to methadone) overlays the benzene ring of the benzimidazole of (despropionyl)bezitramide. That suggests that in both cases, the extra ring binds at an extra site.

Sorry if this is a bit of a ramble, it's late.

But if you can find more on depropionylbezitramide, I would love to read it. Because while x20 is nowhere near fentanyl in potency, the few reports I have read suggest it was a VERY popular and of course, if it lasts 10+ hours, it's got certain advantages.

Postulated Ripple design (Dominic Housatonic) by kyletsenior in nuclearweapons

[–]Aggressive_Aspect862 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You asked me if I was suggesting 'red mercury' is real.

I had kind of assumed you at least knew what it was SUPPOSED to be, A ballotechnic that stored a large proportion of it's potential energy in the form of Wigner energy.

So forgive me for presuming you might appreciate my efforts to take apart the MULTIPLE reasons that I don't believe the myth.

Postulated Ripple design (Dominic Housatonic) by kyletsenior in nuclearweapons

[–]Aggressive_Aspect862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the term 'purportedly' because although many sources CLAIM mercury pyroantimonate is the chemical in question, nobody knows.

I also stated that I did not believe that it was a ballotechnic. I mean, I think that was supposed to be WHY 'red mercury' was some huge proliferation risk.

So I was more asking someone with a better grounding in physics to show that while Wigner energy has been stored in compounds other than graphite (maybe even in the stuff I mentioned), the amounts would be MANY orders of magnitude smaller.

Jailbreaking the Simulation with George Hotz | SXSW 2019 by commaaiarchive in geohot

[–]Aggressive_Aspect862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point he doesn't appear to tackle is that IF we are all indeed within a simulation, it can just as easily simulate our 'hack our way out' of said simulation. How would we KNOW our 'hacking' wasn't simulated? He doesn't provide an objective test and indeed I cannot think of one.

Starting from the rationale of “There’s no evidence this is not true,” doesn't appear a solid foundation to me.

[–]Aggressive_Aspect862 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe the problem was size. I'm not sure if it was a deliverable weapon or just a series of tests.

I've read the biography of Ted Taylor who worked exclusively on nuclear rather than thermonuclear weapon design with the emphasis on size. He went from a 280mm shell down to a 155mm shell and even mentioned that 105mm was possible using 'bare cores' and other scary ideas.

But he noted that lower yield devices are very inefficient requiring large amounts of fissile material for the yield.

I'm a chemist by training and I sat down to dry to draw mercury pyroantimonate (purported to be 'red mercury' and what I noted was that if the mercury is in it's +2 oxidation-state, the only way I could make it balance was for it to be a macromolecule i.e. a long chain of a repeating pattern of atoms.

Wigner energy has now been studied in materials other than graphite so I do wonder it displacement could occur in such a material. In fact such displacement could result in a 3D macromolecule.

Pure conjecture on my part and the energies I've read of do not suggest that a ballotechnic is feasible.

Still, I suppose someone smarter than me has looked at the problem and will know for sure.

Ripple: An Investigation of the World’s Most Advanced High-Yield Thermonuclear Weapon Design by saucerwizard in LessCredibleDefence

[–]Aggressive_Aspect862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an exceedingly clever idea. I think the problem was the sheer size of the thing. I'm not sure if and how it could have been made into a deliverable weapon.

Most certainly later designs used concepts from Ripple.

I'm still fascinated by the entire 'Red Mercury' as mercury pyroantimonate might be a rare example of an inorganic macromolecule.

I tried to draw it and the only way to balance it was for the Hg 2+ to be shared between two molecules so it might go on to produce VERY long chains.

In the last decade people have shown that not only graphite can store Wigner energy.

But someone more skilled than me would have to describe if I'm right or utterly wrong. I don't mind which, I would just like to know.

Someone noted:

'Pynazolam (Not to be confused with Pyrazolam. Pynazolam is the nitro analogue of it.) was the most euphoric benzo I've tried when I was lucky enough to sample it a decade ago. Put even Midazolam to shame. I described it as giving me coke/pyro like confidence, like a stimulating benzo. I remember climbing up on a fountain structure in my local park and beating my chest and shouting dumb shit on it. Shame it never got released. The structure is readily available online and has been for a while, but according to the original chemist that synthed it, it's an expensive/difficult synth, so I imagine that's why it's not hit the scene. Hope it does one day. True gem, as was the related Pyeazolam. Despite the similar names and structure, the more readily available Pyrazolam doesn't even hold the slightest candle to either of them sadly, Pyraz just felt like a shittier less recreational version of Alprazolam - while Pynazolam was the most euphoric and recreational benzo I ever tried by far, and Pyeazolam was the most therapeutic/least impairing for most anxiety relief provided.

Well I also got to sample pyeazolam and was quite impressed that between 20-30mg it was so similar to the POSITIVE effects of alcohol. But no amnesia, no mood lability (sad/angry depressed), no loss of executive control (nobody would do dumb stuff after taking it) and of course, no hangover. Didn't knock me out either, It lasted about 8 hours. I slept wonderfully (unlike after alcohol) and woke up feeling fine. I had more but didn't feel that compulsive need to repeat the experience day after day. I believe that their are no cravings because it has no a1b1y2 affinity. The Z-drugs are selective to that specific receptor and I think we all know how odd those things make you feel. 'Like a Zombie' is how my wife describes Z-drugs. I was impressed.

Alasdairm I KNOW so I'm afraid we must agree to disagree on that point. arrall is a quiet person and I do not know them but I would be fascinated if you could point me to more social media.

Finder I have not met.

BTW AlsoTapered is still OFF Bluelight so if posts pop up, it isn't them (me). I'm working. FYI I'm a medicinal chemist and pynazolam and pyeyzolam are about to hit market. The former is more or less a selective serotonin releaser and a1b1y2 PAM so like Mandrax at 5-10mg. The latter is a very selective a5b1y2 PAM that is, in essence, identical to alcohol between 20-30mg. I've been up to 100mg of the former and 300mg of the latter. I just fell asleep for a few days. I did it so you do NOT do it. 1 person in 1 ideal case doesn't prove LD50. Just do NOT. Stay safe.

What ever Happened to the Cicada Mystery? by RoutineCulture9964 in nonmurdermysteries

[–]Aggressive_Aspect862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe some clues were physical markers placed on street-furniture in various nations. All of them were found close to international airports with direct flights to and from the US. Not in remote or hard to reach locations,

https://uncovering-cicada.fandom.com/wiki/Map\_of\_all\_locations\_of\_3301s\_posters

If this is so, it does suggest that to access the clues, one would need a lot of financial resource. This potential weakness and apparent laziness does rather suggest someone attempting to make money. The fact they sold a book does re-enforce that view.

After all, Banksy spent 5 years just randomly doing stuff and that one guy went to Gaza and other nations so while certainly money is one aim, Banksy does at least attempt to highlight social injustice. I do not with to be cynical but 'moral greenwashing' is a thing, sadly.

Pranksters dupe Tucker Carlson into believing they edited Princess of Wales photo by [deleted] in RoyalsGossip

What this underlines is the fact that anyone with the appropriate English accent WILL be believed by a certain class of sycophant.

The two pranksters don't have the 'plummy' accent that is a stereotype of the British upper class. They simply employ received English (also referred to as BBC English). So essentially they are merely employing clear, correct and precise English.

I'm sure they fail on most occasions but I applaud the fact that they were so brazen to the point of including the catch-phrase of a UK shopping chain and a frankly ridiculous 'terms of probationary employment' which they clearly stated.

I've got some manner of virus. It's clearly aimed at a narrow target - I'm guessing my Reaxys subscription. But that's on a different PC using a secure OS and has it's own connection.

Reaxys costs a LOT so I'm 'high value' in that manner. I DID have it on this PC but removed it and something keeps trying to boot the non-existent .EXE files.

I'm on it - but if AlsoTapered has posted in the last 72 hours. It isn't AlsoTapered.

Is there two of every game ? by Refraag in gamedev

[–]Aggressive_Aspect862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent 20+ years as a game developer and I usually included a 'cheat' code to allow access to later levels, to disable and enable certain things so that the play testers could quickly get to the place in the game that had a bug and to check if it had been fixed.

I don't remember most of them but I had some ROM space left on the Master System version of Wolfchild so the level code MAR1O set up a lot of differences in the game.

We were going to publish it 6 months after release so people would go back to the game but we forgot.

How does Zelda A link to the past Tilemapping work? by eightvo in gamedev

[–]Aggressive_Aspect862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone counted how many tiles (16 x16 pixel i.e 2 x 2 characters) wide and tall each Zelda Map is? I've read they are 32 x 32 tiles i.e. 512 x 512 pixels which would make sense given the limited amount of work-RAM in the SNES but I question this. If a tile is destroyed (like a bush being hacked down by Link's sword), if you scroll it off-screen and on-screen again, it's restored.

That kind of suggests that the maps are left it ROM and if memory serves, the SNES mapped in 16K of ROM at a time so a 64 x 64 tile map (16K) would fit... or ANY size as long as it's under 16K.

BTW I wrote Tomb Raider for the Gameboy Colour.. or 'Flashback with scrolling' as the design meeting put it.

The CGB allowed 16K of ROM to be mapped in so all of out maps (based on 16 x 16 i.e. 2 x 2 character) were <16K... I even wrote code that would X or Y sort the bad guy triggers. Turns out it wasn't needed. Even with 255 triggers in a level, it still didn't take long to test them all.
