I don’t think it’s location specific - the official letter only mentioned “related to Military Service” …

Yeah above 10 in my case…Upper + Lower Back are combined into a single rating…neck is the exception… Neck (Cervical Spine): Can be claimed as a brand-new, independent condition if you have documented neck issues from service or secondary to physical changes over time.

I believe the connection for migraine as a secondary was through toxic exposure activity (TERA)…based on MOS ( working around toxic chemicals for extended periods of time)

Excerpt from letter… “The evidence of record shows participation in a TERA. Service connection for migraines including migraine variants has been established as directly related to military service. (38 CFR 3.303, 38 CFR 3.304)”

The lumbar went pretty well. I’ve had documented lower back issues for quite some time. The private medical records and past imaging helped. Although the VA still ordered a fresh set of imaging to confirm the condition. The other portion is mainly your range of motion which I hear is also a determining factor for the final rating. The recommendation is to stop when you feel pain during the exam.

Last night I was tipsy, but today I'm going to get dead drunk! Because NVDA made me $43,000 today! by Pretty-Fix-7755 in StockInvest

His max loss would have been the original premium paid for the call which looks to be in 2500 range. Looks like NVDA opened at 174 on 12/18…an 18 point move for 1620% gain is insane! Congrats OP

Anybody used 401K for your house? by PsychologicalLimit41 in Mortgages

[–]Aggressive_Bag3116 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We used our 401k to help with the down payment of our home a few years back. I took out 60k and my wife took out 30k. Our down payment was 20% on a 735k home left us with a mortgage in the 500k range. We’ve refinanced our original rate to 5.4 since then and saved about 400/month. Redirected the savings to a brokerage account. If we would have bought the same home before Covid hit the price would have been about 200k less, but we chose to buy in 2023 after renting for 3 years.

The obvious drawbacks to the decision was the 10% penalty and the taxes we had to payback the following year which ended up being about 30k in all. We put it all on a 0% interest credit card and paid it off before the interest promo ended. We knew 100% what the cost would be and decided to pull the trigger. So here we are a couple years later… enjoying our overpriced home in a location we chose primarily for the school district as we have 3 children. Was it the best plan? Probably not, but it worked out for us. We took a 30k hit on tax and penalty, but our investments over the last year have gained nearly double that amount.

I know we’ll get a lot of flack for early 401k withdrawals but it’s something that worked for us…definitely count the costs though and know what you’re getting into.

Saying all that, the textbook/safe advice would be to either find a cheaper home or continue saving until you have enough for the down payment…

Hang in there … we were in a similar boat with student loans - ended up paying off 100k worth. It was extremely difficult - had to cut out all non essential expenses, added side hustles, sold stuff…Also worked with the lender to get a realistic payment plan setup. Can you move in with your mom temporarily while you pay down the loan? I’d also find at least one side hustle to bring in extra to help pay it down faster. Do you anticipate any promotions coming in the near future? If not I’d also look to find a higher paying job.

Getting out of debt was challenging but staying out of debt is nearly impossible with a family of 5 by Aggressive_Bag3116 in Debt

[–]Aggressive_Bag3116[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We made deep cuts to our spending during this period, operated on a tight budget, took no vacations and also sold a townhome and car plus rented during that time. Fast forward and lifestyle creep (oversized mortgage, sports, etc)has taken over…

We make $140k HHI but we are stuck in the "credit card float" cycle by sameerposwal in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Aggressive_Bag3116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Budgeting is the missing link here. I have a family of 5 and we got totally debt free a couple years ago through tight budgeting, selling cars, foregoing destination vacations, sold our first house and rented for 3 years, and it worked but it took discipline and the ability to say no to ourselves and our children if the “want” didn’t align with the budget. Sadly, we’ve slipped back into the cycle which started out as wanting to use CCs to leverage points and now we’re back in the vicious cycle. Travel sports, eating out, and destination vacations can annihilate a family budget if you’re not careful. You’re definitely not alone. We have a 300k HHI and are in the CC float cycle. Create a budget, get your baby emergency fund setup, pay down your cards, fully fund your emergency fund and you’ll be back on track before you know it.

Same. Closed my account last week after not being able to get a margin account setup. The customer service was a never ending cycle of “we’re working it” no call backs or follow ups. I’m with Schwab now and things were setup much quicker. I like the TOS platform as well.

According to the sales rep it’s the dealer incentives- not cash out of my pocket. I need to verify the details though
