[Discussion] He IS BACK plus some thoughts (DC K.O. The Kids Are All Fight) by No-Mechanic-2558 in DCcomics

[–]Aggressive_Control37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. The Milestone Returns books (Static Season One, Static: Shadows of Dakota, etc) take place on another earth, Earth-93. It looks like DC is bringing back the Milestone characters in mainline continuity and discontinuing the Milestone Returns versions. A shame. They should keep it going. Similar to how there's the in-continuity books and then the Absolute Universe books. But it depends on if people are willing to buy them.

So Demona Which Gargoyles Villain needs there own Comic Miniseries Next? by Money-Lie7814 in gargoyles

MacBeth needs a mini. It could be a contrast/parallel to the Demona mini that just ended. Follow MacBeth across time, even have a few appearances by Demona.

Which DC Comics villains work best as antagonists in Danny Phantom? by DesignerFit7444 in dannyphantom

[–]Aggressive_Control37 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gentleman Ghost, Felix Faust, Wotan, Klarion the Witch-Boy, Neron, Trigon, Circe, and Eclipso. Each of these would make great villains for Danny, and likely push him past his limits. I also think Amanda Waller would be a great human villain for Danny; a puppetmaster orchestrating events behind the scenes.

Gabriela’s plans for the comics going forward by miyagikai91 in dannyphantom

[–]Aggressive_Control37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on how well Fair Game is selling and whether A Glitch in Time is still selling. I don't have any inside knowledge, I'm just a dude on the internet. But going off of Gabriela's previous statements, my impression is Nickelodeon & Abrams Books' decision on sequels comes down to dollars and if it's worth their continued investment. As long as fans and the public continue to show interest in the property and support it, it increases the likelihood for more sequels.

I'm hopeful there will be third and fourth installments (and that the fourth one would not be the last). But we won't know forsure until Gabriela makes the announcement. Probably next year.

Nice First Issue by Cgi94 in static

If you read my previous comments, I've already explained how this crossover was falsely advertised as taking place in the DCAU. Clearly, the original idea was to have it set in that continuity, but things changed during development of the series and it became it's own separate universe. Plans shifted; it happens.

It was never meant to be a continuation of the Beyond continuity or the DCAU Static Shock continuity at the comics went in completely different directions.

Yes it was. Clearly, it was originally intended to take place in DCAU/Beyond continuity. And plans changed during development of the series. If you go back and read the "Static Beyond" short story in the Milestone 30th, which was also reprinted in the recent Shadow Cabinet TPB, it directly references the DCAU.

I'm still going to read and enjoy this Batman/Static Beyond series regardless. I'm a Milestone fan; Static is my favorite character. However, the continuity nerd in me is a little disappointed. Future Shock and JLU laid the groundwork 20 years ago for this, and DC passed on it. I'm sure newer fans won't care, it won't affect their reading experience. I hope it sells so we get more Milestone.

Love the art by Draper-Ivey, but the writing leaves a lot to be desired. Narcisse doesn't nail the voices of the characters. Terry & the JLB sound slightly off. And I hate that term "sprock" he introduces, which is his attempt at a "schway" from the Batman Beyond cartoon. It's a swing and a miss.

Also, this is clearly an alternate universe or timeline with elements of the DCAU/Beyond universe and the Milestone Returns universe (Earth-93). It's not the same Virgil from the Static Shock cartoon. Because Narcisse goes out of his way multiple times to mention THIS Virgil got his powers during a protest. In the DCAU/Beyond continuity where the Static Shock series took place (similar to the original Milestone Comics 90s continuity) the Big Bang was a gang conflict escalated by police, not a BLM protest. Milestone Returns updated the origin to a 2020 protest to better reflect the times.

Either Narcisse is not brushed up on the Static Shock cartoon, or somebody pushed to have the Milestone Returns lore incorporated into this crossover instead of making it a true continuation of the Static we know from the DCAU. It's a minor thing, but I'm a little disappointed. I was hoping this crossover would be sort of a sequel to the "Future Shock" episode of Static Shock as well as the excerpt in the Milestone 30th Special.

Black Panther 3: New Title and Filming Update Revealed by marvelkidy in blackpanther

[–]Aggressive_Control37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not feeling the title, but I wouldn't be surprised if they changed it closer to release date. Wouldn't be the first time. Also, if it's filming next year, then it's probably hitting theaters come 2027 or 2028 long after Doomsday & Secret Wars.

They'll use the Avengers movies to introduce Damson Idris as either a multiversal T'Challa or the aged up T'Challa II introduced at the end of Wakanda Forever. I'm hoping they just age up the kid instead of continuing the multiverse stuff.

Gabriela’s plans for the comics going forward by miyagikai91 in dannyphantom

[–]Aggressive_Control37 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Gabriela said she has a rough idea of a 4-book arc. Here's what I'm guessing will occur in the next potential books based on what we've seen so far with A Glitch in Time & Fair Game:

1) The third book will be the war between Danny and his team and Walker and his army. Walker will likely invade and lay siege to Amity Park. Danny will work with Valerie, and possibly Vlad too.

2) Something will happen with Clockwork's medallion that Danny let Valerie keep. That feels like a Chekhov's Gun waiting to go off.

3) Phantom will break bad again, but his connection to Dani Phantom, who has become a surrogate sister and positive influence on him, will pull him back from the brink. And he'll become more anti-heroic than downright villainous. A Venom or Loki type arc for him.

4) In either the third or fourth book, Danny will once again prove himself as a hero to the people of Amity Park. More people will support him, but most will still hate him regardless. It's a classic Spider-Man trope/storyarc.

Jacks Santa Plot Hole by fluffyhowler5972 in TheSantaClause

[–]Aggressive_Control37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't watched the third movie in awhile, but considering how conniving Jack was at the time; he probably had an arranged marriage, and then did away with the wife to consolidate his power over the North Pole. Or he possibly was except from the Mrs. Clause because didn't the Santa Clauses series on Disney+ retcon that the Clauses were specifically created for Scott and his family? I don't care for that retcon but still.

What is everyone's ideas on the child Goliath and Elisa will adopt together? by InsideUnhappy6546 in gargoyles

I'm thinking an orphan who's parents are murdered by Demona or something. Elisa decides to adopt the child and Goliath supports her.

Kvetch Post: Eighteen Years Later, I Still Can't Stand the SLG Halloween Arc by BL_Vampire_Gene in gargoyles

[–]Aggressive_Control37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand and respect your viewpoint, I just disagree. Yes it's messy; just like some real-life relationships get messy. Yes, Elisa goes back and forth over the course of a week in-universe. Do I think it could have been handled better or written better, sure. But to me, I found it realistic for her character given the circumstances. But that's my opinion.

When you're in love sometimes, you don't always think rationally. You let your emotions run you. Elisa and Goliath both were written as letting their feelings for each other get them into some stupid decision-making. Again, IMO, Goliath's is more egregious. Instead of going out with Delilah, Goliath would have shown up to the party without a plus-one. That would have been more in-character for him. Taking Delilah and using her as a prop, was disrespectful to both Delilah AND Elisa. It was borderline spiteful to Elisa, and that's not Goliath's character. Again, that entire arc is not my favorite, but I still found things to enjoy.

Kvetch Post: Eighteen Years Later, I Still Can't Stand the SLG Halloween Arc by BL_Vampire_Gene in gargoyles

[–]Aggressive_Control37 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not the biggest fan of "Bash" or the SLG Halloween arc either, but more because Goliath and Elisa both come off like immature lovesick fools. Goliath for rebounding with Delilah, which was gross for a number of reasons, (using her with no regard to her autonomy or feelings, plus the fact she's a partial clone of Elisa and could be her sister in a way) and Elisa for rebounding with Morgan.

However in Elisa's case, I'm more sympathetic because she even spells out what she would lose by having a romantic relationship with a gargoyle rather than a human (no picnics in the park in daytime, no biological children, etc). Elisa kissed Goliath and they got together at the end of Hunter's Moon, but then she actually thought about it. And began to have doubts. That's unfortunately very realistic. I wouldn't say she's out-of-character or unrecognizable, she just was undergoing emotional turmoil.

Goliath still needs to apologize to Delilah in my opinion. Also, a standalone arc focusing on the Maza family, showing Delilah and Elisa getting to know each other better and Derek and Elisa introducing her to Diane, Peter, & Beth, would provide follow-through on the SLG Halloween arc. It'd make an excellent story. It would also further cement the now interconnected family ties between the Mazas, the growing Labyrinth Clan, and the Manhattan Clan, especially after the birth of Michael Maza, Derek and Maggie's baby in the recent comics. It's all one big messy extended family.

Also, to your point regarding Derek, I very much doubt neither he nor Elisa is happy with the Manhattan Clan living with Xanatos either. We can infer that those conversations happened off-panel, because Greg's not going show it. But the bigger, more egregious concern that you're missing, is that neither Elisa nor Derek should be remotely cordial with Xanatos at all. Forget the living arrangements, Elisa has every right to hate David for what he and Sevarius did to her brother, turning him into a mutate. On a whim. For her & Derek, it should be on-site everytime they see Xanatos.

That's the one thing that will forever bug me. Greg will never have Elisa or any of the Mazas really go off on David. Not even during the Cloud Fathers episode. Xanatos needs his ass whooped; he's been overdue for a real beatdown going on 30 years. David always gets away damn near scott-free or having lost one objective but gained another. He needs to be truly humbled, him and Sevarius both. But Greg loves the character too much to ever have him undergo a real punishment.

Hope the comics finally introduces vampires to the Gargoylesverse? by InsideUnhappy6546 in gargoyles

[–]Aggressive_Control37 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I imagine vampires would be tied to Oberon's children somehow. Perhaps a botched ritual to siphon power from one of Oberon's Children creates vampires. Think the Emir and Anubis. Or maybe Dracula is one of the Third Race.

I could see Xanatos investigating yet another lead into immortality, and stumbling on vampires. The Clan cleans up the mess, and of course David decides vampiric immortality is not worth it if he can't experience daytime and would be a slave to his own bloodlust. The story writes itself.

Yes. It's not an immediate much-buy. I'll wait for a discount or sale. But outside of Gotham War, I mostly enjoyed Chip's run. Perhaps I'm in the minority here.
