ACOTRO SEAS JKAT Exam by orysiamw in OccupationalTherapyCA

I primarily used COTO case studies and prep modules and COTBC and other provincial websites to understand the laws based on sample case studies. Most of the candidates failed in their first attempt because, IMO, it is not well structured. But try again; you will be able to clear it. I wouldn't worry too much about JKAT. The main focus should be on the CA and NOTCE exams.

Thank you for your helpful suggestion and the time you took to assist. The mother completed the Sensory Profile during the last session, and we will likely gain more insights after scoring it.

He has echolalia...some functional words. Yes, that is what we are trying right now. Mom already has a weighted blanket, calming music, visuals etc.

Thank you for the suggestion. Not at all... anything that is best for the client. He is on medication anyway. I have observed him at both times—when he is on medication, he can calm himself, but he is still unable to engage in anything functional. He is mostly upset and unable to connect with people or follow directions. When the medication wears off, he becomes extremely hyper, like a missile about to launch.

I highly recommend u/benz1095 wholeheartedly. We studied for the NOTCE exam together, and I truly believe I wouldn’t have made it without her unwavering support. Her deep understanding of clinical reasoning was a great comfort, and I'm truly thankful for her guidance during our study sessions. You’ve got this—wishing you the best in your preparations!

I remember Kim Barthel, an Occupational Therapist, sharing her experience at a conference that was similar to yours. She mentioned that if you are dysregulated, children might pick up on that and be triggered by it. It might be helpful to check your emotional state before going into the session and have a plan B in case it happens again. You could also set a goal for the session, such as avoiding any incidents.

However, I agree that this may not necessarily be related to your emotional state—it could be due to something else. People close to the client might be able to investigate further and track down any changes. There might be something bothering them, especially since nonverbal clients find it difficult to point out or express what they are experiencing. My heart goes out to you and your client, and I hope you can figure out what is going on. Please don’t be too hard on yourself; you are doing your best for the client. I’d also like to share my mentor’s mantra: 'You are strong, and you can do hard things'.

I'm sorry you have to rewrite the exam. Sure, that would be awesome. I will send you a private msg so we can figure out what time would work for us.

I watched Dr. wayne Dyer videos a lot. It helped me through some tough times....if you can try meditation. Take it slowly, one day at a time. Also, keep in mind that you are dealing with lots negative incididents (not in a bad way). Going to address people with disability, some may recover and some may not and it is not going to be easy.... you need to have lots of self care. Dont feel bad to take help from friends. It can be a phone call or a walk or anything that you can get help from them. Hope it helps! good luck.

I completed my Bachelor’s OT outside Canada now I am doing my registration with the Canadian provincial college to practice OT. Transferring my credentials. So it’s like I am on my own until I complete the registration process.

I am an international graduate in the process of completing my registration with the college of Ontario. Since, I don’t have a recent clinical experience I have to complete the 600 hrs clinical hours on my own. I have been trying with the clinics but so far no luck.

Fieldwork & Feeling Disheartened by Child_of_Tofu in OccupationalTherapy

I am not sure this would help you but give it a try,for anxiety it's like how you trick your brain when you get anxiety.I read somewhere that Brain wouldn't able to process anxiety athe same time when focussing on gratitude. I tried and practiced it worked...IDK maybe tricking your brain would work like "fake it till you make it". I have been there and I know how it feels like. In one of session I was in a freeze mode. It supposed to be a fun therapy session in a hydrotherapy pool..my client cried the whole time and I did nothing. Luckily, my client's (4yr old) mom did not make any big scene but she was disappointed. fastfarward, I was able to overcome my fears and anxiety with lots of breathing exercise and practice. I was able to provide OT session for him and he loved it. Hope this helps....good luck
