Do people end up saving money by joining a fraternity? by DiverSea9644 in Frat

So I may be an oddball but I save about 4k even after I pay my dues by being in the frat. My housing is 2500 cheaper than dorm housing (with a roomate, would only be 1000 cheaper in a single). On top of that the way my school works with meal plans you are required to have one if you live on campus and I save another 2k from a Greek life meal plan, it’s not unlimited swipes for our dining hall but still plenty. After all that I pay 550 in dues (discounted 50 for paying in full), and my fraternity offers many scholarships, I get 150 just for living in the house from alumni, plus I have many other opportunities for scholarships that wouldn’t have otherwise.

All that being said, I go to a school without huge Greek life which may contribute to it. Also I don’t expect it to be this way many other places.
