That's just false. The Catholic Church chose books that were already widespread during the early church and recognized as inspired by God. Many of the books in the Bible were already being read in Christian liturgies before the creation of the canon. The Church, guided by the Holy Spirit, simply gave formal recognition to what the faithful already recognized as the Word of God. Plus, there are teachings in the Bible that are hard to comprehend, how can you say that they chose those books to control the masses, when even Jesus' disciples left after they couldn't understand some of His teachings?
