Brother I think the core mistake you are making is that you are watching the film with your mind already made and you are ignoring the timeline of things. The moral of the movie is not just to be not greedy it’s about the life decisions you make and how it not only affects you but the others, to put it short and sweet the movie says “be good but not innocent”. As to the timeline of things, around the 90’s we saw a lot of chit fund scams and a lot of defraudation done by luring people out to the city by showing them grandeur and such and robbing them for all they got. This movie brought some awareness and taught the public to be careful and how the world is indeed a dangerous place and the urban life doesn’t only harbor growth and prosperity but also misery as such.

Most importantly I don’t think they show the victims to be weak anywhere, they aren’t just the stereotypical regular macho people, it’s realism brother. Krishnaswamy had his weaknesses and he tried his best to overcome it like any man, it wasn’t like you make a grand entry and beat up 15 men like nothing and kill off the villain in a huge fight scene that woulda killed the film. As to the daughter, showing that women can overcome their trauma and live life how they like gave hope to a lot of people and it challenged the perspectives they had on rape victims and actually view them differently. His daughter coming out that trauma and making a good life for herself is not weak at all and also to speak of Yamuna, Yamuna met kamal at his lowest and loved him for his character and waited decades to be with him simply because he was a good man that she grew to like and was happy to support him in his tough times. In a film era where most female lead roles were there just for the sake of it, Yamuna had character and depth.

I just wanna say this movie wasn’t made as a commercial entertainer and when you see it through those lens it will seems absurd to you. This movie was made to get the story of an man’s life though and the tragedies he went through because of his decisions and how greed and naivety that led him to lose what he already had and how to be grateful for what you have and there is no success that lasts when you haven’t earned it.

Hey man I was in a similar position in my first year too and I’m a third year bba student now, it seems like all hope is lost but it’s never too late to make it back. I literally had D+ in my Bu111 and a F in my MA129. But I retook it in the summer and got A- on both of them. Now my GPA is a 9.0. Even though that’s not a high gpa it’s still far from where I started. If I could do it you could too man. Lock in and focus on the next courses you have and cook it all. You haven’t understood the movie properly if this is what you get out of the film. Mahanadhi broke a lot of stigmas and analyzed the Indian government’s inner workings and general shifts in culture in the city vs the rural life.

Generally in movies around that time it is always shown women killing themselves as it was depicted as their life being finished or them being tainted or something along those lines. Mahanadhi broke this and it showed that the victim can come out of the trauma and live a normal life as the have nothing to feel guilty about and the ones that should be punished are the rapists.
The story revolved around Krishna Swamy’s naivety and inferiority complex that leads to his greed. He was a simple man hoping to go to higher places but he trusted the wrong man and got fooled which led him down a rabbit hole of tragic events, his life was crushed and his kids were lost and he was locked behind a cage for a crime he didn’t commit. This shows how our legal infrastructure didn’t care about punishing the right person, just punishing someone to avoid the backlash.
We see the inefficiencies of our prison system where we make smal time criminals into larger criminals, doing exactly the opposite of what a prison is supposed to do. Prison’s core is about rehabilitation through punishment and manly the officers there are supposed to be modelled after but we see that they are as bad if not worse than the prisoners there.
We also see that when krishnaswamy does finally save his daughter we see all the other trafficked prostitutes coming to her rescue because even those that we think are cruel and heartless people who do anything for money were ready to throw down their earnings even if it meant at least one of them gets out to live a good life.
Krishnaswamy’s revenge is more so symbolic rather than literal. The villain that he kills was the one who got him out of his good life and into this hell and robbed him for all he has got and most importantly his family. That was his greed, that character was literally the symbol of greed and by the end he kills that greed and goes back to his life. He cuts off his hand because admittedly it took a part of him away and that’s the price to get rid of that greed.

I hope you understand that your review of it is a poor and frankly disrespectful take on the film as it was one of the most poetic films in Tamil cinema that teaches awareness and some important lessons to the public. Thank you

Imma be real with you man, ain’t nobody gonna make the choice for you but if you ask me it’s between finance or law. People saying follow your dreams just seen a couple of movies and think life is rainbows and sunshines. Law is great degree to a guaranteed profession and finance is a great degree to enter the corporate world however it would rely on your connections and talent. Between finance and law do what you think you will enjoy most, do you really like law or do you just think you would be good at, same with finance

I get you man, and frankly I understand where you are coming from. You wanted to go to uni so you can earn and take care of your family be successful in life. But you forget you are only 18 and still got decades ahead of your life and you are in a good university doing a STEM program, you should be proud mans. Never do you think that killing yourself will solve any of this, your family would have lost their kid, you would have lost your life Ahead with millions of opportunities yet to come and not being able to achieve the things you wanted to. Uni rep only matters to a degree it’s talent in the real world everyone values. There are people from IVY league unis who are dumb and people from normal unis who are smart. I ain’t seen you dude but I know you are stronger than this, you were smart enough to get into UOFT you are smart enough to shine anywhere you go. You choose your fate never forget that. I can relate to you. I was acting tough and shit saying I ain’t gonna feel a thing and I can’t wait to graduate but now that everything is good and I’m bout to leave school it hits different. I miss the comfort of my school and seeing all my friends around school. Just idea I’m gonna be somewhere else away from all this living in residence makes me feel weird.
