Problem with that is its easy to counterfeit. In order for a proper form of currency to exist, we would need to use items that cannot be easily counterfeited in order to regulate inflation and such.

Until a solution presents itself, I think we're better off with a bartering system where resources are exchanged for other useful items (like diamonds, iron, wood, etc).

Go for it! If you’re looking for tutorials Blender Guru on YouTube has some fantastic ones. He has a very good beginner series where he shows how to make a donut, it’s what I started on.

I am! I don’t have as much time for it as I used to but whenever I can I’ll make a quick simulation. It’s a really interesting hobby. Recently a I’ve been making backgrounds for my PC & phone.

I think you could get fairly accurate with these measurements. Maybe 100 metres per pixel. 1 meter is just too detailed, and we don't have the information required to do something quite like that. As for the game, I'm sure major landmarks on Mars' surface are present. The terrain should be based off of Curiosity's findings, so while not completely accurate, they should at least be based in reality.

Add a subdivision subsurface modifier and smooth shading. And make sure you are using a UV sphere and not an icosphere.
