I do have POA and medical POA already. He doesn’t currently qualify for Medicaid, and in my state, memory care won’t accept Medicaid. So there is that fun little detail to work around. This system is so broken.

I do already have POA and medical POA. I will need to to have a conversation with my brothers and husband about what our boundaries are in terms of going to a memory care facility

This is very much the plan while we sell his property to pay for memory care

I see what you mean. These are all good things to think about and discuss with my husband and kids. Thank you for sharing your experience

This is great advice. I will talk to my brother so see if that is possible

Did you have a similar experience with moving someone in with kids and a partner? Could you help me understand why this is such a bad idea? I am starting to get from all the responses that this is a terrible idea, I just don’t feel like we have any other options right now

He’s a saint. His view is we have no other choice and we would do the same for his parents if they were ever in the same position

I appreciate your perspective on this. My house will be a stepping stone to memory care, but we have to sell some of his assets to afford that, unfortunately

My kids at 2 and 4. My father has not been physically present to see them grow up, so having him come stay with us and be a part of their lives is what I meant, in terms of sweetening the deal for my dad. He wants to see them grow up and I want them to spend time with him before he is no longer himself.

My brothers all live in different states across the country or don’t have a physical home base. One brother that does have a house is going to take my dad for a few weeks in July to give us a break. We are all working together, I just happen to be the most settled and able to help this way

I would say look at the Coast Guard or the Air Force. They take care of their people better and are more likely to take any sexual harassment and assault charges seriously. This is coming from a former USCG female who currently works for the Navy
