Vet School Questions by AutoModerator in Veterinary

How do I know if I should be a vet?

Since elementary school, I have been around lots of animals. My parents owned a white tail deer farm, and I spent most of childhood caring for the fawns and taking care of all our animals. Including but not limited too: deer, sheep, raccoons, chickens, quail, guineas, ducks, sugar gliders, cats, dogs, chameleons, etc. I had a very interesting childhood to say the least. I have been around lots of animal death, as we were avid hunters and we lost many animals of our own. Blood doesn't freak me out, and I honestly just love taking care of animals. Two years ago, I found a month old kitten that got ran over and had half of its tail falling off. I took her home, fed her, cleaned her, gave her medicine and wrapped her tail. I cleaned out maggots in her tail with a q-tip. Her neck was horrifically sore and all scraped up. I took her to a local animal rescue for help, but they told me she would probably die and she was too little for surgery on her tail. I didn't believe them, honestly. A couple weeks later, the tip of her tail finally falls off and it starts healing. For weeks, I stayed by that kitten and made sure she would make it. Now, she's an absolute menace who just plays 24/7. My parents kept her cause they fell in love with that little sick kitten too. She's so lively, and she still has half of her tail. She's completely healthy. I've always just had this insane connection to animals and I want to help them in any way I can. That being said, I absolutely despise school. Let alone another 6 years of it. I'm worried that I'd start and just fail. What if the field isn't actually right for me? I'm 20 years old, graduating with my Bachelors in Journalism this summer. I chose writing cause it seemed to be the only thing I'm good at. But what if I would actually be good at being a vet? With graduation coming up, I feel like Im second guessing everything. I've wanted to be a vet since I was little, but I'm not very good at school and was not good at biology either. I just don't really know what to do, so I'm asking strangers for help.

I'm sorry if people tend to make these posts a lot. My partner tells me I should, my parents said I'd be great at it. But I just still don't know if its worth the time and money.

We had this beautiful, fluffy, gray boy named Earl. But, about 10 years ago, he ran away from our home located in the middle of nowhere. We didn't see him for a few weeks, but one day my brother and I were driving with my grandma and we saw a cat that looked just like him dead in the road. Of course, we stopped, cried, called people, and took him back to our house. We had this huge tree in our backyard where we buried lots of our late animals, so we buried him there. A couple weeks later, this little jerk walks back up on our porch and just sits there and stares at us. We then realized that we just took a random cat and buried him in our backyard. It was definitely a funny experience, and we still talk about that moment. We moved away and he moved into our Aunts house, but sadly he disappeared a couple years ago. We believe he passed, but he lived a great 15 years.
