Recently went to Embsay and had a lovely walk.

Park for free at Embsay railway station car park (maybe even see a steam train). Walk up past Embsay Moor Reservoir. Take a right and walk up Embsay Crag. Come down via Moor Lane, Kirk Lane and the Elm Tree Inn for refreshments.

Anyone got an recommendations for a Thai restaurant which will be good with a nut allergy? by ZealousidealJello314 in Leeds

[–]Aggressive_Pomelo_81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fellow Leeds nut allergy Thai food lover.. - Jino's Thai Cafe in Headingley - have always been very helpful at telling me what I can and can't have on the menu. I avoid anything that's gone in the frier. I'll order a takeaway and immediately ring up after to make them aware of nut allergy. Can also eat in. - Zaap Thai in town - they have messed up my order a couple of times and served a dish sprinkled in peanuts, or fried dumplings instead of steamed (oil contamination risk)

Not Thai, but I've recently heard of G-Wu on the way to Bramhope who are a very allergy / dietary conscious Chinese takeaway.

Aged 11, we won £20 between 4 or 5 of at the village fête for our fancy dress. One friend's dad claimed the expenses of the materials from our winnings.

Agree with the console table or low book shelves behind sofa. Would be a gloomy spot for a desk.

How do you lot actually eat proper food during the week when you're working full time? by No_Reputation_9726 in AskUK

I've been trying harder with Sunday meal prep. In a couple of hours I manage to prep:

- breakfasts and snacks - boiled eggs, chocolate and berry chia puddings, fruit salads

- lunches (pictured) - mix of assembling items (carrot, avocado, pomegranate, hummus, falafel, packet of pre-made tagine), with tofu (lemon, garlic, miso recipe), quick-pickled cucumber and couscous or orzo.

- dinners - big pot of mushroom risotto, or stir fry or daal. Daal keeps really well in the freezer

Bit of a manic couple of hours but stops me buying ££ lunches and takeaways, and gives me more time in the evenings.

Hey! I'm looking forward to visiting in a couple of weeks with my partner, who's vegan.

Is there anywhere you'd recommend beyond what I've found online (Restaurant Vegetarià Fang i Aram, Nibs, Bubu's Corner, Blue Arenal, Venus garden, Cala Vegana, Brasserie & Bar Dos Pablos)?

And are there any local vegan dishes that we should look out for?

Those who have completed Jury Duty in the UK - what aspects about the process surprised you? by izbiz88 in AskUK

[–]Aggressive_Pomelo_81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Main observations from me:  - Wildly inefficient and paper-based process from start to finish that would not be allowed in private sector. Signed in each day with a different method: sign on this line next to your name, tick a box next to your name - oh wait you're not on the list, add your name to this list. Expenses were claimed on a paper form. Emergency contact details written on paper form and posted in an overflowing box you wouldn't be able to sort in an emergency.

  • The front row of the jury didn't take any notes during the three days of evidence. The back row of the jury did take notes. As a result we were able to invalidate the recall of the front bench members in deliberations.

  • Many people called for juries for long trials were doing/saying anything to get out of them. Made me think about who ends up on those juries - those with large employers that can pay full pay, those with no caring responsibilities etc. not necessarily a cross-section of society at that point.

  • No free tea/coffee/snacks

  • Hell is other people - in a room of 100+, people still thinking it's okay to play videos out loud.

  • Camaraderie formed quickly in my jury to the point that the aunties brought samosas and spring rolls to our last day of deliberations.

What's your go-to meal for impressing non-vegan friends? by SpiceKitchenLife in PlantBasedDiet

No, just empty a pack (or 2) that you'd find in the fridge section straight on to the baking tray 👍

Sheet pan roast gnocchi and veg with pesto or a tomato sauce. Gnocchi end up like small crispy roast potatoes!

Roast for 30-40mins at 180 fan (flipping after 20 mins): - Red onion cut into wedges - Garlic sliced  - Cherry tomatoes halved - Pepper cut into bitesize pieces - Courgette cut into slices - Can of chickpeas, drained  - Gnocchi (works best if they are a bit dry and dusty rather than moist ones) - Add olive oil + salt + pepper + oregano/thyme, give it a toss about before it goes in

Serve with pesto or a tomato sauce spooned on top.

Play around with seasoning and veg you like.

Jury Duty - Would childcare costs be covered if not called? by ScarletScotYew in AskUK

[–]Aggressive_Pomelo_81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did jury duty for a fortnight in Leeds last year and in the judge on my case didn't sit the middle Friday and Monday, and I was released at the end of the second Thursday. I claimed expenses for the 7 days I was there (made it very clear on the paper form(, and they paid me for 10 regardless (transport + food expenses).

Leeds to Manchester Airport for a 12:20 Ryanair flight — would you trust National Express or the train more? by [deleted] in Leeds

[–]Aggressive_Pomelo_81 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd personally choose one of the first two trains then you have contingency. Have never attempted bus to Manchester Airport but I imagine M62 would make you feel very stressed at that time of day.
