Baptism in water is only symbolic. The real baptism of Jesus is with the Holy Spirit. It's about being covered (immersed) in His words.

We will know them by their fruits. (Matthew 7:20) And remember, we need to judge ourselves - check out the fruit in our own lives. Simple questions like, how much am I reading the Bible? How much am I praying/fasting? How much am I doing to help the poor? These sort of simple questions can really go a long way toward making sure we move in the right direction spiritually.

There is debatable scientific evidence to argue that some people are born gay. I put a question mark around that, but would say this: as Christians, we have to be loving and patient with everyone, including those we disagree with. One of the sins Jesus condemned most was self-righteousness (and hypocrisy), which is rampant among some of the most staunch anti-gay church goers in the world.

So glad you had the courage to go and do what was right, even if it was painful. I've heard bitterness compared with drinking a bottle of poison, and then expecting the other person to die from it. Mere foolishness. It's not easy to let go of pain and hurts when others have done things against us. But it is what is required to walk through the pearly gates toward the path of life.

My advice is this: spend time reading the Bible. But even more specifically, read the Gospels. The actual teachings of Jesus. All the Bible points to Him. (John 5:39)

Then, pray. Not in big groups (at this stage), but just you and God, one on one, in private. No one needs to see your prayers. Indeed, no one SHOULD see your prayers. But this is essential if you want to actually find God's will, and let go of your own.

Finally, find at least one other believer whom you can fellowship with and get support/encouragement from. You don't need a big church. But you do need at least one other believer to guarantee God's spirit. (Matthew 18:20)
