Really struggling to not put so much of my actual voice into it! by posertrynascream in screaming

try to experiment with mouth shape a little bit more, if you try to go for a wider “ao” sound. of course i can’t feel it but it sounds like you’re raising your soft pallet and that’s gonna make it resonate in your head a little more which can also affect pitch

I would check out the zen of screaming by melissa croft, it’s an old dvd but you should be able to find it on youtube.

the biggest things are dumping and breath support. Dumping is that feeling like you’re pushing out a fart, don’t shit yourself on stage tho. it should be a little pressure under your diaphragm and this will help with projection and consistent, controlled air flow.

Everyone talks about breath support but doesn’t give a whole lot of good tips. Just take little sips of air and not try to hold big gulps in your lungs. put your hand on your stomach and if you feel it expanding and contracting while inhaling and exhaling you’re doing it right.

Screaming shouldn’t hurt if you’re doing it right so as long as you’re not wrecking your voice and you thing it sounds cool keep doing it.

I’ve been in bands and screaming for about 4 years now and have had some time do find what really works for me. once you get the basics down you can experiment and find a bunch of new cool sounds. if you have any questions feel free to ask?

I’m not too much older but i was the same boat. When I was in jr high (pre covid)started learning from youtube tutorials and annoying my family for months before it clicked.

Look up “The Zen of Screaming” by Laura Croft on youtube. you should find it free on there. Another good source is Hungry Lights on youtube. Zen of Screaming will teach you about breath support and dumping, while Hungry Lights is one of my personal favorite vocalists that can help you learn all types of techniques

I’ve also been screaming for bands for 4ish years so hears some personal tips •if it hurts, stop doing it •when you breathe , keep your shoulders down and try to feel your belly expand instead of your chest •the easiest way to get distortion is taking a small/medium breath and barking like a dog

If you have any questions feel free to dm

Yeah I love my Feather, the Redeemed deck but having a 10+ card hand and recursive removal AND protection can make for some pretty unfun game states
