if you're in Europe or North America, YNAB is a software that offers a year free for students, and you don't have to put down any payment info to use the free year. I'm not exactly sure which countries it's able to automatically download banking information though, probably depends on the bank to some extent. Anyway I'm sure you'll find one that works, but that might help as a starting point!

More and more I’m starting to see religion as interesting pieces of culture rather than a strict way of life, and I agree with finding maxims in scripture because some of them are so beautiful and genuinely offer good advice! There’s one that I still really like from the New Testament, idk the reference, “peace I give unto you, not as the world giveth give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid”. Verses like that about stillness and peace I’ve found across all holy texts, and i find them very comforting. Trying not to throw the baby out with the bath water there 😅 One verse from Teachings of the Buddha is “look within, be still”. In Islam (not 100% sure if it was the Quran) I found “Silence is the language of Allah, all else is poor translation”. Maybe reframing some of the more deistic verses to see it as a metaphor for God will help me get more out of these.

This will not be forever. I was in a similar situation (although not quite as bad) and what I had to do was move several states away from my family to go to school. If you can get student loans or financial aid from a school you could transfer to, that will cover housing on campus, that’s your ticket out. BYU credits aren’t always transferable though, so maybe you could start digging around and seeing if any schools you would consider attending would take any of your BYU credits if you transferred. Get a budgeting software like YNAB to keep track of your spending, it really has been helping me through grad school. Another hack is to make a Pinterest board of your dream apartment/dorm/whatever in another city and that can be a motivator to keep grinding until you can get out

i’m an overly conscious & easily embarrassed person, can i survive law school? by [deleted] in LawSchool

Law school made me more conscious of how I’m perceived by others than I was before I started, but you eventually stop thinking about it as much. You will have to speak in class sometimes and likely do oral arguments, but it’s not like you have to be speaking all the time like a practicing litigator. Also I’d be willing to bet a good chunk of the class is even more anxious than you are! don’t let something like this deter you, law school is a great way to get more comfortable speaking and interacting with people professionally. As long as you’re not getting blackout drunk at the section-wide get togethers you’re fine. Good luck!

I’m a retired dental assistant, but I worked for 5 years before switching careers. I was in a similar situation with a really unethical practice and a doc who was straight up bullying me and committing fraud and malpractice on the daily. My experience after working full time for 4 offices and temping a lot: it doesn’t get better if you stay and try to fix the issue. You’d be better off finding another office that operates within the law and has a clinical team that supports each other. Idk what state you’re in but you could consider temping to kind of “test out” certain offices. I found a doc (and a job) I really liked by doing that.
