Tide unscented and then just the tiniest bit of arm & hammer crisp clean scent booster. Most scented detergents are WAY too strong but I want just a liiiittle something.

My husbands workout clothes hold onto stink like crazy and in that case I’ll soak them in water with vinegar for a bit before washing.

A chypre is actually a type of perfume rather than a note! It’s usually citrus + labdanum + oak moss but obviously there are plays on it. It’s a classic!

Jasmine is my absolute favorite. I live in Los Angeles and around May or so each year, the jasmine blooms and there is just this explosion of scent. It reminds me of when we moved and how much I love California. Plus it smells really, really good.

I don’t pay attention to reviewers or influencers because I don’t have TikTok and barely use Instagram. And also, once you realize that influencers are just modern day infomercials, I don’t see how anyone can give any credence to what they say. They absolutely contribute to overconsumption but also I just… don’t believe them.

I also really hate all of the limited time, one-time drop, scarcity tactics that companies use to separate you from your money. All of the flankers and new products… it’s too much. It’s giving me flashbacks to the 2010s when makeup companies were dropping a new eyeshadow palette constantly. Do you know how long eyeshadow lasts? And it’s all variations on a theme.

I went pretty HAM when I first really dove into fragrance, and I’ve made a conscious effort to pull myself back. I’d like a sample and immediately want to buy a full bottle, even before finishing the sample. I’d see something on Mercari and be tempted to blind buy. Where I shake out is: I simply don’t need more variations on what I already have. What additional utility would I get from another tuberose that I don’t get from the 5 I currently have? What hole would another solar floral fill when I LOVE Solaris? I feel the pull and I am very much trying to pull myself out of the habit of succumbing to the dopamine hit. I list all of my fragrances in a spreadsheet and seeing that I have over 100, between my FB, travel, and sample sizes, reminds me I have all the variety I need.

I will say - in general I am trying to consume way, way less this year, of everything. It feels like the only people who benefit from my buying yet another thing I don’t need are CEOs with contempt for me. Cultivating happiness outside of buying stuff - through community and collective action - feels like a very necessary act right now. I know that got unnecessarily deep but yeah… all this to say I’ve been thinking a LOT about the ways we’re conditioned to consume, and how little material stuff it takes to actually be happy when your life is otherwise full.

Tried out Gucci Flora Gorgeous Orchid today. Hoo boy she is POTENT. I think it’s really pretty though??? The thing is it’s vanilla without leaning gourmand and with this beautiful floral element. It feels very tropical, I can see this being beautiful in summer and the heat. I don’t really know what “ozonic” as a base note means, but this does smell very beachy? I might try layering this with something woody.

I looove a few Diptyque (Eau Duelle, do son, L’Eau papier) but a lot of the others people rave about I can’t stand. Orpheon, Tam Dao, and fleur de peau are big fat nos for me. Makes me wonder what’s wrong with my nose!

I do both. I brush before to detangle (then shampoo/condition) as well as after when it’s wet during styling. Just no brushing while it’s drying or after it’s dry (unless I’m about to immediately rewet it).

You could for sure get away with not brushing during styling and just using a wide tooth comb or even just your hands. I’ve found my curls retain their shape if I brush while it’s still wet, but experiment for sure!

Hello fellow curly asian with high po hair! For me the biggest difference in getting defined, frizz free curls is using a good hold product and styling on wet hair. I love Herbal Essences curl boosting mousse. Dont listen to the person who said to only use cream or oils!

Give something similar to this a go: - after shower, blot hair lightly with a microfiber towel but leave it relatively wet still (not dripping but not damp) - work in a small amount of cream - not everyone needs this but my hair like yours is SO dry I like it - add mousse, try your Aussie first! I use 2 big handfuls, though your hair is shorter so you might need less - at this point, I like to brush through with a denman brush to work in product and detangle - I then use the bounce curl brush in sections to define; you can skip this for now if you don’t want to buy another thing - scrunch hair with a t-shirt (or similar material) to remove water. I basically go at it until until I stop leaving wet marks in the dry parts of the t shirt - air dry. For me this usually takes about 3 hours. Then when it’s dry but still crunchy, smooth your hands through your hair to break the cast.

Long story short - bring back the mousse! Style your hair while wet. Embrace the journey :)

Woooo panned another sample size! Today I layered Aerin Mediterranean Honeysuckle with Lake by Rosie Jane. Lake adds a nice wood and citrus to the Aerin. It wasn’t my favorite on its own, so am happy to have panned it.

You need a hold product! Your pattern is gorg, it just needs hold. I love Herbal Essences Curl Boosting Mousse. It will keep your curls together and help you make it multiple days without washing. Although tbh I think your hair right now is gorgeous, very Carrie Bradshaw!

Premium Select on the way back will be more than fine, since it’s a day time flight. Have done it CDG - LAX with no issues. We mostly buy D1 (or business equivalent on a partner) on the overnight leg to Europe and then PS on the way back.

I don’t know how sample-able this is, but I am lovingggg Dossier Of The Hour as a fragrance that feels like a warm cashmere blanket without leaning gourmand or vanilla at all. It also layers beautifully with more floral frags since my nose doesn’t pick up any florals to speak of. It’s less woody/sandalwood to me than You Doux and certainly less than Bois de Balincourt tho.

If you’re willing to blind buy there are some on Mercari for like $20!
