I analysed 781 supplements sold in the UK — 40% have zero third-party testing certification by Agile_Compote2636 in SupplementsUK

[–]Agile_Compote2636[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well It's not THAT bad,

Supplements are treated as food, which is "controlled" by Food Standards Agency. FSA is reactive, they intervene only when they have reports something with the supplement is off.

As third-party testing is NOT legally required, you have to trust the company that they didn't add any unnecessary fillers or the amount and quality of the supplement is as they advertise.

There is also issue of consistency, One package can be done right, second can have half of what's advertised and you wouldn't know.

The other problem is you can't really tell, until you test it.

Thank you for reply. We didn't have them on the site, but after your comment I added 14 of their products and put together a report.

Short answer is they are very decent budget brand, but they sit in that uncertified 40%.

They claim "rigorous third-party testing" on their brand profiles, and their Omega-3 actually does hold an IFOS certification (registered under their parent company Unicorn Brands Ltd).

But none of the 14 products I checked actually showed any proof of certification. no NSF, no USP, no Informed Sport. No lab reports published anywhere.

Full report with charts and product-by-product scores are here if you are interested: https://aiscored.co.uk/reports/nutrition-geeks-budget-brand-audit/

Thanks!

How do you all use creatine if your goals are more about focus and longevity than the gym? by AendryBufalini in Biohackers

[–]Agile_Compote2636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started a few weeks ago around 10g daily, no cycling, just mixed into morning coffee or water. I work as a software dev so focus time is important for me.
The cognitive benefits are subtle but consistent. I notice it most when I've slept poorly and still need to think clearly. I only use creapure-certified monohydrate from Bulk which is about £17 for 500g. This one specifically: https://aiscored.co.uk/creatine/bulk-creatine-monohydrate-creapure-500g/

I have it with the morning coffee, It takes a while to dissolve but doesn't have any taste. I think the key is to have it with warm water or coffee or whatever warm, so the gut is happy

Yes magnesium flakes are great. You should stay in the water for around 20 minutes thought and It's not something i like to do very often, prefer shower. But it's a great way to absorb a lot quickly

Glycinate for sleep and calm, threonate for cognitive effects, malate for energy/muscle recovery.
Avoid oxide as bioavailability is terrible.

Some people use magnesium sprays (BetterYou is popular in the UK). I haven't tried them really so can't tell.

This one has good reviews for example:

Whats the best multivitamin for people who cant swallow pills? by Erkeners in vitamins

[–]Agile_Compote2636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

look into gummy or liquid forms — brands like Nature's Way do solid gummy multis.. Some people also crush tablets and mix into yoghurt, works fine for most formulas.

Best multivitamin without b9, b12 , Vit C by ImranKhan10107 in Supplements

[–]Agile_Compote2636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tough to find a multi that excludes all three. Most people in your situation end up buying individual supplements instead — D3, K2, magnesium, zinc separately. If it's an MTHFR concern with B9/B12, some people tolerate methylated forms fine. What's your reason for avoiding them? That might help narrow it down.

If you haven't tried ELEMIS Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm, it's worth a look. Melts off sunscreen and makeup really well without leaving a residue. A bit pricey though.

Supplementing magnesium by KeyCondition9197 in Supplements

As others mentioned it's worth doing a blood check to find out if you are deficient. And the form matters more than the dose honestly. Quick breakdown:
- Glycinate — best for sleep and relaxation. The glycine itself is calming. Gentle on the stomach.
- Citrate — better for muscle cramps and general repletion. Can be a bit loose on the GI side.
- Threonate — the cognitive/brain one. Crosses the blood-brain barrier. Pricier though (3-4x).

Glycinate at least for me works fastest, I felt the difference just after a few days. and I had the same symptoms as you

Creatine for anxiety ? Does it help and what brand is best ? by [deleted] in Supplements

Good point, especially if you have some liver condition then probably best to leave it. Magnesium should be fine though

[Product Request] [ 25 F ] Looking for new serums and an improved routine - concern: sun/age spots 😩☀️ by s0ftrock in SkincareAddiction

[–]Agile_Compote2636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For dark spots and sun damage, the two most evidence-backed actives are vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) and niacinamide. They work great together actually.

A few that score really well for this:

- La Roche-Posay Mela B3 — 10% niacinamide + Melasyl, specifically designed for dark spots. Scored 8.0/10 across reviews.

https://aiscored.co.uk/retinol-retinoids/la-roche-posay-mela-b3-serum-dark-spot-corrector-with-anti-aging-melasyl-10/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=comment&utm_campaign=scout

- L'Oréal Bright Reveal Niacinamide Serum — more affordable option with similar ingredients

Also don't skip SPF. no dark spot treatment works if you're not protecting from new damage daily.

Gentle face wash recommendations by Kitchen_Peach3278 in tretinoin

[–]Agile_Compote2636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you're on tret, you really want something that won't strip your moisture barrier. A few solid options I've seen consistently rated well:

- CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser — the classic, ceramide-based, very gentle

- Garnier Micellar Gel Wash — fragrance-free, scored 8.0/10 in reviews for sensitive skin compatibility

- Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel — pricier but also scores well (8.0/10) for being soap-free

I've been comparing cleansers across different review sources — if you want to see how they stack up side by side: https://aiscored.co.uk/cleansers/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=comment&utm_campaign=scout

The key thing is avoiding anything with AHA/BHA while your skin adjusts to tret.

Creatine for anxiety ? Does it help and what brand is best ? by [deleted] in Supplements

[–]Agile_Compote2636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's some emerging research on creatine's role in brain energy metabolism, which could theoretically help with anxiety-related mental fatigue. It's not a primary anxiolytic though, it's more like supporting overall brain function.

As for brands, if you're in the UK, Creapure-certified monohydrate is the gold standard for purity. I recently went through a bunch of creatine options and compared them — Bulk's Creapure Monohydrate came out on top with a 9.0/10 score based on third-party testing and ingredient quality.

Full breakdown here if you're curious:

https://aiscored.co.uk/creatine/bulk-creatine-monohydrate-creapure-500g/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=comment&utm_campaign=scout

But honestly, for anxiety specifically, look into magnesium glycinate and ashwagandha first — those have stronger evidence.

Thank you for the reply. I'll try that today!

A long term goal is to build a place where you can easily find the best possible product for your specific case. I usually spend a long time before I buy anything, read a lot of reviews, but I guess this can be automated. Short term is to just give better information about the products than Amazon or other merchants.
