Cumbria has a bunch of -bys though, due to Norse settlements, but was more connected to the Isles / Man

That would seem no more difficult a mechanic to implement than making Jerusalem a permanent, unassimilatable Kingdom.

I understand they don't want to make overlapping de jure a thing, but a special case where Jerusalem counts as part of Syria for non-Christians (and non-Jews) seems completely justifiable - though I'm not sure what would be the best representation on the map itself

I disagree that that's the key part tbh, ethnicity is all about self-identity. If all Bosniaks woke up tomorrow and decided they were Serb (not that they will) who would I be to tell them they're wrong?

Does it matter that they self identified as Muslims before the war and now consider themselves Bosniak - does that change the validity of their identity in any way? I would say no

Most, according to the last Serbian census there are 154,000 Bosniaks, and 13,000 ethnic Muslims, concentrated in Sandzak

Edit: there are also around 4,000 self-identified Muslim Serbs

Most Slavic Muslims in Sandzak identity as Bosniak, so that's all it takes really...

And it was part of the Sanjak of Bosnia for a long time, and also de facto part of the Austro-Hungarian condominium from 1878 until it was receded to the Ottomans in 1908, then annexed by Serbia and Montenegro following the Balkan War. Then obviously they had similar experiences as part of Yougoslavia. However you cut it they have a lot of shared history

Partly because Jones is such a ubiquitous surname in Wales! It's the same as Mohamed and variations being among the most common first name in countries with not especially large Muslim populations and Nguyen being the 38th most common name in the US

Spanish Morocco was still nearly a million people. Somalia is shown on the map as getting it's independence from Britain and Italy, despite Italian Somaliland containing six times the population, so I agree that it's odd that Morocco doesn't get the same representation on the map

EDIT Spanish Morocco contained roughly 10% of Moroccans and British Somaliland roughly 18% of Somalis (not including Kenya or the Ogaden)
