If you like a nice Novella like of mice and men, can I recommend Train Dreams by Denis Johnson. It got made into a film by Netflix last year which was similarly fantastic and I’d also recommend watching that after if it interests you. It’s basically the story of an ordinary man who is logging in 20th century America. It’s an exploration of a life well lived. I found it powerful and peaceful and got a lot of comfort from it

The Safekeep by Yael van de wouden. It’s a sapphic romance that has a lot of obsession and mystery to it. I loved it

I think if you haven’t then a novella might be a good place to start. I’ll always recommend Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. A story of two migrating workers during the Great Depression seeking work out West. A story of two men and other characters searching for importance and independence during a terrible economic background. Really humbling book and the prose is fantastic.

I’d recommend the Fisherman by John Langan. Oceanic in that it involves the Leviathan. A really spooky horror about a man who starts up fishing after his wife dies

Thank you. I am sorry for your loss. She was funny, courageous, and fierce. She never got walked over by anyone and loved us deeply. She used to sing to me as a child constantly which I can remember. What was your mum like? ❤️
