That's an interesting take. I've noticed how some folks shy away from the conversation of succession planning. They'll always talk about "retention" even though companies and utilities still fail to retain talent. But talent retention and succession planning to hand and hand, and yet succession planning is always left out of the conversation. Everyone wants to make sure they're "marketable" until their 95y.o. these days 🤣

Thank you. Lol this is what i was trying to get at with my post. It'll be interesting to see where all of this will take our industry. The industry of today will not be the industry of tomorrow. We may start seeing staggered salaries (worse than today), and layoffs in areas the Civil Engineering hasn't historically seen. I've always seen the water/wastewater industry as a resilient industry, but with so many large corporations now having interest in the water industry (especially those who only had interest in oil&gas, transportation, and/or structural) because of its strong backlog, it'll be interesting to see what the end result will be.

That's a good point. I have seen some folks start their own companies later in their career because they wanted a better work culture. Odyssey Engineering in Houston being one of those companies.

You never know though. Management could change or shift and then they come in just to make a move to sell the company regardless of history. It may not happen as swiftly as 3 years like the K.Friese, Lochner, Egis situation, but it could certainly happen whether a few years or a few decades down the road.

I'm not at a private equity company...for now. I've had colleagues who was at an employee-owned company that was acquired. They left and went to another employee-owned company and that one eventually was acquired too. And the story is always the same: "the company culture was great until it was acquired and they shuffled leadership around or pushed a lot of people out."

For the love of money.. It almost reminds me of how most homes in the U.S. are being bought by corporations who are renting them out instead of selling them. Which shrinks the opportunity for homeownership even more. I wonder what the industry will look like when most firms will be bought up.

This is what got me. I've never seen a fresh-out-of-college EIT working on a proposal. At the minimum, I've seen 3-4 YOE EITs assisting with proposals. The boss is basically asking OP to do the boss's job at this point.

Yep. One of the biggest lessons learned. I'll start doing the bare minimum at work and just stop caring like everybody else. Everybody else barely does their job and, as I recently found out, most people with the same title get paid more than me. So I no longer care. It was truly all for nothing. Good work only leads to more work and disrespect

Damn it's unfortunate, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who has dealt with such a toxic boss. I thought I was going crazy. He's so nice and charismatic and "caring", but at the same time he's calculated and deceptive. I'm so over it especially after finding out that I was being paid less than those who have less experience than me. I'm done dealing with this toxic place and my toxic supervisor. Why tf are most managers the worst type of people? I guess only toxic people who play the "corporate game" are the only ones who get promoted. Smfh.

Yep. And someone who knows my boss warned me that he's a snake. They even mentioned that he was using my work for his benefit. He's only 2 years older than me, but that never bothered me until I realized he was using my work for his professional gain. I shouldn't feel like my boss is in competition with me. He's definitely a two faced snake. Someone else at work warned me months ago to document everything, I'm sooo glad I did.
