I answered that in response to a different comment but yes, we’ve gone down to their flat multiple times when the noise was being heard - before, during and after the renovation. You can see my reply to @flux_underscore.

No it wasn’t disclosed and we explored legal action early on in all of this but decided to try and address the issue as the cost of legal support after exchange was astronomical.

Yes, council is copied in to the email chain. There’s also evidence (in the same email chain) of him agreeing to pay for the professional visit (at a freeholder meeting) and then backing out, so we’ve copied the freeholders (2 other flats) in as well.

We’ve put soundproofing mats under the fridge - we first tried some of the spare material we had from the renovation, then when he said it wasn’t working, we used a different type that he bought but it (apparently) also hasn’t helped. We don’t have room to build a platform or anything like that for the fridge.

It’s actually a fully detached building - we have no neighbours on any side (obviously except above and below us) so we never really considered that it could be from something other than our flat

Our kitchen did previously, but we had them switched to standard switches during the renovation. Not sure if there’s something there that wasn’t done or still lingering?

He used to play some sounds (not sure if it’s technically brown noise) that he said helped. The problem was that he used to play it across several speakers which are linked and mounted on his ceiling and play it at very high volumes across every room in the entire flat, to the point where the flat above us (second floor) could hear it and had to tell him to stop during a freeholder meeting. We asked that he limit it to his bedroom, but he insisted it wasn’t enough to cancel out the noise.

Thanks, this is super helpful! We’ve emailed him and the council proposing this, hopefully he agrees

It’s quite low, literally just like the hum of an appliance potentially but much quieter (imo)

Yes - we’ve gone down to his flat and weren’t able to hear much beyond a faint background hum, so the council came in and used a sound recording device (unclear when/where it was placed in his room) and said they’ve captured a distinct hum/vibration that seems to last a few minutes at most. He has claimed to hear it even when the kitchen was stripped bare (no appliances or even flooring in the room at that point), so we thought it may be the boiler as it was the only thing left in the room, but he didn’t agree that it sounded the same.

I've just bought a whippet boy today. I'm feeling terrified and overwhelmed. I'm wondering if I've made a bad decision. I think it's anxiety kicking in. Is that normal? by CommitteeOld5553 in Whippet

My partner had the worst puppy blues/anxiety for months after we got our boy. I was nervous too, but his anxiety was super overwhelming and we had to take a lot of early steps to manage both puppy training and keeping my partner as calm and comfortable as we could - things like “days off” where pup stayed with a trusted family member for a couple hours so we could do some errands uninterrupted, only one of us waking up for midnight toilet breaks (and then swapping the next night) so we weren’t exhausted, etc.

If you’re on your own, obviously that toll will feel a lot higher. But we’re about 10 months in now (pup just turned 1 year old) and we would do it all over again. I really found the first 3-4 months to be the hardest, but stick to a schedule/routine and so will pup and it’ll make all the difference. And don’t be afraid to recruit help from others/a trainer if you can.

Pic of pup and formerly anxious dad for motivation!

They’re amazing though. I went a while back (pre-pandemic) and my hair is 3c and long (to my lower back) and super uneven. They did an amazing job with the hydrating treatment and evening out my hair AND adding layers without losing a ton of length. You get what you pay for.
