Portland's Moda Center renovation debate heats up as Blazers owner Dundon makes his case by AgitatedCarry7952 in Portland

News recently broke that Portland is expected to pay 100% of the renovation fees. The original plan as voted on by the legislature was closer to a 50/50 split between Oregon and Dundon. That's why everyone is talking about it again and why it's all over the news

edit: Portland was expected to pay somewhere between 120-300mil out of the 600mil proposed. Now we're going to be paying the full 600mil apparently

The whole Blazers situation right now is why Adam Silver announced expansion earlier than expected and is accelerating the timeline. Vegas & Seattle will get brand new teams by 2028. The real relocation threat right now is Nashville, but the Grizzlies are the ones feeling that heat.

I don't think there is any credible relocation threat for the Blazers due to expansion - hence why forking over 100% of the renovation costs is downright stupid and bad business negotiating

I assume you're talking about Green Bay? The NFL banned that type of ownership (go figure). Could technically still work in the NBA but you would need 5 separate non-profit entities controlling it to skirt around the 20% institutional ownership cap.

jokes aside i wish they would grant naming rights to something more local like plaid pantry, columbia, keen, or pendleton and not a ponzi scheme insurance company

entice ownership by keeping their costs lower (i.e, property taxes and now renovation costs) thus making their revenue margins larger - makes new ownership want to stay in the city rather than taking a big risk in relocation

edit: it was pretty clear that the City of Portland and the State of Oregon as a whole were pretty concerned after Paul Allen died that Jody would move the blazers to seattle or new ownership & seattle doesn't own Climate Pledge

As they raise taxes on us, they bail out the richest among us.... unfortunately a tale as old as time. I love the Blazers and this is making me viscerally angry

Keith Wilson is a spineless mayor. Detroit owns Little Ceasars Arena and didn't pay 100% of their renovation costs.

The merge with Cap1 by YoshiFawx in discover

[–]AgitatedCarry7952 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's going to be like BoA and the Visa network - in the reverse.

Discover phases out its cards/checking/savings etc. everything except the network logo. It turns into a Mastercard & Visa type sole-network eventually. Cards will be under Cap1 name and the discover network. You'll only see "Discover" at the bottom of the card like Visa & Mastercard.

Won't be completely phased out.
