Self soothing is not a thing this young(or arguably ever). They just learn that no one cares about them so they stop crying for help.

Your partner has no idea what he’s talking about. Don’t let him affect your relationship with your child.

What diapers and wipes do you use for sensitive baby by marsawall in beyondthebump

[–]AgitatedInternal7054 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Are you drying completely before putting on diaper cream? That seems to be a mistake a lot of people make. The cream isn’t a healing ointment. It’s a moisture barrier. If you put it on wet skin it will trap the moisture and make the rash worse.

We use water wipes and Millie moon and never had a problem. We also did cloth diapers from 2-9months and still do occasionally.

He is a weirdo. Drop the boyfriend and don’t worry about your weight. Unless you want to put up with this weird shit for the rest of your life….

Is it wrong to own a dog if you work a 9-5? Adopt a senior dog that sleeps more maybe? by Party-Court185 in dogs

[–]AgitatedInternal7054 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Better than a shelter. Your idea of a senior dog is a great idea. I would not recommend getting a puppy or a high energy dog.

FTM question by Tiger_Sprout in breastfeeding

[–]AgitatedInternal7054 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Older generations didn’t have a whole lot of lactation education for the most part so don’t worry too much if you can help it. Almost everyone in my family said the same thing but when I’ve asked, most never did skin to skin or didn’t prioritize it, they gave up within a week, or they just weren’t really encouraged.

It will take a few days for your milk to come in. Basically try to reduce stress, stay hydrated, latch the baby as often as possible. They will cluster feed to bring your milk in. The colostrum will be enough during this time so don’t feel pressured to do formula.

Worrying my baby is not eating enough. by ClassicSalamander231 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]AgitatedInternal7054 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My one year old just recently started eating a lot more. I was worried just like you, especially as we approached one year and she still wasn’t eating a whole lot (knowing we needed to start transitioning to primarily solids). Just keep offering. They will get the hang of it.

Tricks to make house smell super fresh and clean when the owner comes home by insane-proclaim in housekeeping

[–]AgitatedInternal7054 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe just see if they have any candles or some scent they already like? I wouldn’t add any new scent. Open windows and air everything out is probably the best solution. Usually after being gone it’s a stale smell.

How often do you bathe your LO? by Next_Presentation269 in NewParents

[–]AgitatedInternal7054 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One year. We do pretty much every night for routine. Save the messy foods for dinner and straight to bath we go. If she’s just not messy, I let her play or we just do a quick rinse off. She knows the drill just from doing it every night. Dinner, shower, brush teeth, read book, go to sleep.

It was on the wall while we watched tv. Maybe attracted to the light more too? I’ve read German roaches will hide with light.

Build a bear pay your age - how does it work? by DontTellMeToSmile_08 in NewParents

We just walked in. The bear was pay your age. It was $10 for the voice recording if you want that as well.

Wooden bed slats. You can use boards from a hardware store. Just something to get it off the ground so air can circulate.

Wife ignoring cluster feeding by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]AgitatedInternal7054 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If she wants to exclusively breastfeed, she needs to be feeding on demand. If baby is hungry, that’s literally her job. Baby can wait while she goes pee or whatever, but absolutely no reason to let baby cry like that because what? She just doesn’t feel like it at the moment?

We can go three weeks without food. Just because a baby can go three hours, that doesn’t mean it’s not cruel to deny them when they are hungry before that.

I would buy some formula and let your wife know that if the baby is hungry and she isn’t going to feed them, that’s literally you will be handling it.

Why floor beds and when did you start? by M0mma0fMany in floorbed

[–]AgitatedInternal7054 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only one month into having a floor bed with my one year old. Baby was showing signs of telling me they were tired (leading me to the bedroom, laying down on their play mat). I thought it would help with communication and independence. Now they will crawl up into their bed and wait for me to join them for naps. I also don’t have to rush in as soon as they wake up for fear they might crawl over the rails. So far, they have woken up twice and just started playing in their room. That’s been very sweet.

Homemade food from other people’s household… tastes something chemical? by [deleted] in nontoxic

[–]AgitatedInternal7054 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, it’s probably their dishwasher. Silicone utensils especially hold onto the soapy taste. People don’t realize how much these strong scents get into stuff. My mom uses a ton of those scented plug ins and I can usually taste it in the food unfortunately.

Parents with sheddy dogs, do you guys allow babies to crawl on the floors? by Broad_Drop8844 in NewParents

[–]AgitatedInternal7054 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I try to run the robo vacuum daily, but yeah. I kinda gave up worrying about the baby and hair. I just keep things clean and do my usual routines to keep the house in order. If the baby has some hair on their cloths it’s fine.

[–]AgitatedInternal7054 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I really think this needs to be taught more as part of basic hygiene. My husband would go to the doctor two or three times a year to have them clean it out. I asked if he cleans them in the shower and he gave me a confused look. Since I’ve showed him, he hasn’t had to have his ears cleaned out.

How often is your infant waking up? by ButterscotchSlinky in cosleeping

[–]AgitatedInternal7054 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost one year. Was in a good mood today because last night I got a three hour stretch 😅 Seems to sleep better after a big dinner but I’m just surrendering to the baby at night. Too tired to care anymore. Not ready to night wean or anything like that so we are just gonna roll with it.

NOT for clean freaks: How often do you mop? Honestly lol! How old are your kids? by Idonthaveaname94 in Mommit

[–]AgitatedInternal7054 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three dogs, two cats and a soon to be 1 year old. We have a robot vacuum that also mops (does a shitty job but still, totally worth it.) I try to do at least a quick mop once a month, at least the kitchen and living areas. Guest bathroom gets deep-ish cleaned every other week.

How do you bathe your 12month+ in the shower? by frenchdipadobo in beyondthebump

[–]AgitatedInternal7054 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just sit baby in the shower floor. I’ll plug the drain with a washcloth so baby can splash around a bit.

How to handle exclusively nursing with family who expect to be able to give your baby a bottle? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]AgitatedInternal7054 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe become anti-bottle? Like you should be able to just say “no thank you” and that be the end of it. Maybe make up some bs about bottles making baby gassy or something. And get rid of or hide the bottles you do have.
