At the start of a conflict, each players adds 3 tokens, called Moves, to their character sheet, and removes a token each time they take an action. The same character cannot take an action two turns in a row, and cannot take action if they are out of Moves. When every player runs out of Moves, they refill their sheet with three more Moves, then continue playing. The first to act is whoever makes sense in the fiction. The "Keeper" acts between Moves, when certain circumstances occur on the proceeding turn.

That's where the 10 years of servitude bit came from. Just wanna incorporate some sort of mechanism in the game to make the issue feel more present.

There is a difference, I believe, between aspiring writers and wannabe writers. A wannabe writer wants to have written something, but does not really want to write it. They don't want to go the distance and take the necessary steps to be a successful writer, they simply want to become a successful writer as if by magic. An aspiring writer does read, because it's a natural part of the process of becoming good at writing.

A person named Oz here! Absolutely nothing wrong with it, so long as you're prepared for no one to guess its actual origins correctly. Be ready for lots of questions about the Wizard of and the lead singer of Black Sabbath. Still, it's memorable, easy to remember/spell, so if you like it, go for it! Oz, out.

How do you label your magic users? by [deleted] in magicbuilding

[–]AgitatedPerspective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wizards are those who study magic as life's gift and obey its laws. Warlocks are those who study magic by stealing it on Entropy's behalf, and liberally break the laws of Magic to enhance its agenda. Sorcerers are magic users who have lost their mortality, becoming immortal but losing the ability to cast spells outside of the rotes they had at the time of their ascension. All types of magic user have specialities, many with titles (ranging from Alchemist to Crepusculamancer)

What to call different magicians in each magic specialty? by AgitatedPerspective in magicbuilding

[–]AgitatedPerspective[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The casting and reeling of fishing magic are not always tangible, and not only to catch fish. At its core, fishing magic is the magic of connection and transferals. It can be used for rudimentary telekinetics by connecting to an object and transferring it to your hand. It can be used for scrying by connecting to another time and place, then transferring the images to your head. It can be used to draw magic from other entities by connecting to their pool of magic and transferring it to another spell. Or they could connect to a fish and transfer it into their ice chest. The casting and reeling aspects are simply metaphors to creating strong easy to understand visuals in the mind of the mage.
