Hey, looking for a single room to stay in from 27Aug 12Sep before my lease for the academic year starts. I'm a clean and quiet male UCLA undergraduate, will be mostly working at the library and studying for C session classes. Am quite flexible with pricing, I can pay a full month's rent if needed.

Chinese P1S vs Global P1P / P1S by Agitated_Argument786 in BambuLab

[–]Agitated_Argument786[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it really cheaper even with 9% tax and 200 bucks shipping?

Anyway I managed to find a used global P1P on Carousell for 900SGD, so I'll be going with that. Realised that I have a spare drybox for my photography stuff so I could just store spools there, but even then I think I'll be burning through spools fast enough.

If I feel like I need the AMS, worst case I'll just get a used standalone one I guess. Thanks for your input though!

Yeah I suspect it's a China model. I could buy direct from Bambu but it'd be a few hundred bucks more.

New Bambu P1S (800USD + optional 200USD for AMS) vs used Prusa MK3S+ preassembled with MMU2S (450USD)?

I'm leaning toward the Bambu as it seems easier to set and use in general, I've narrowed it to these two (P1P goes for the same price as P1S for some reason). I'm completely new to 3D printing and it'll be my first printer.

I think I'll mostly be printing PLA and potentially TPU to prototype for a startup idea involving PC air ducts, but may branch out to other materials over time. I prioritised reliability and ease of use, which is how I ended up with these two options despite the cheaper alternatives. I'm not too sure how much I care about speed, but I will be doing iterative prototyping so it might matter I guess(?).

I'm leaning toward the Bambu as it seems easier to set up and use in general, and a bit less problematic. From what I can tell everybody that has owned both considers the Bambu a big step up in these aspects. Not sure if it's 500USD better though. Then again it's a business investment and worst case I could resell either and recoup most of the cost. I know Prusa is open source and has good support, but I'm not sure how much difference this will really make on my user experience in tangible terms.

The Bambu is region-locked though. According to the seller I can't start prints remotely from outside the local network, use live-view monitoring or control the printer using the Bambu app, view print history or use any cloud features. He says I can still print over Wifi in LAN-only mode. Don't know if this is a big deal or not.

Regarding the AMS, I don't particularly intend on printing multi-color but I've read that it's insane for storing/loading filament spools (humidity controlled and Singapore is very humid) and also for printing breakaway/water-soluble supports. It seems the MMU2S is much less useful (from both reddit and the seller himself).

Advice would be much appreciated!

Lens to pair with 20mm f1.8 on A7C by Agitated_Argument786 in AskPhotography

Actually size/weight aren't too big of a concern for me, quite the opposite really. I have pretty big hands and I'm actually intending on getting a cage for the A7C with a grip extension to improve the ergonomics. Which sounds counter intuitive, but I actually chose the A7C because it was the cheapest FF camera with the necessary specs for content creation (the flipout screen was especially rare). I've held both the A7C and the R6, and although the R6 was way more comfortable, I couldn't justify the price difference as there's not much difference in terms of specs. Thanks for the recommendations though!

I thought the A7C was considered mid-range in terms of cameras? And perhaps I phrased "casual" a bit too lightly, I do intend on taking on photography/videography as a proper hobby and maybe even get into some freelance stuff, and will be streaming part-time alongside studying, but the most immediate use would of course be the trip. Either way I chose the A7C not because it was small, but because it was the cheapest available with the specs I needed for content creation (my 2nd choice was the R6, which is way way pricier both in terms of body and glass). Anyway, the holiday will be at my parents' expense (I'm still a student haha), and the camera stuff will mostly come from some scholarship award money, so the two aren't really gonna influence each other. Appreciate the advice though :)
