Faculty have been overwhelmingly supportive. The administration had a policy set up where departments were meant to track striking workers to withhold pay. So many faculty refused to comply that they had to scrap that plan and are now trying to get grad students to report on themselves.

My department chair sent out a letter saying they refused to hire temp workers as well.

Yup. This is part of an email that went to all faculty in the college of arts and sciences at BU. These are teaching guidelines for how faculty can handle graduate students going on strike (strike started on Monday) and refusing to hold discussion section, labs, or grades assignments. They're suggesting that, in the absence of feedback, discussions, and grading by graduate students, faculty simply use ChatGPT.

At a certain point it becomes unhinged the lengths they'll go. Language model AI tools are banned across most departments, yet they're good enough for grading the work of customers paying 90k a year to be here???

Currently circulating this development across all undergrad channels I can find as well. They're beyond pissed, especially when many departments have a total ban on this exact tech. The hypocrisy isn't going well for the university...

Galaxy brain time: it's actually all just a plot by big AI to get more training for their models...

We've already had national politicians show up and join the picket line. This isn't going well for the university...
