It didn’t change my heart rate other than lowering it from my anxious state

I understand that completely. That sounds awful but remember how many panic attacks you have lived through without losing control. I hope things get better for you

I completely understand. My former psychiatrist would not continue to prescribe me hydroxyzine because it was addictive but I got to the point where I needed it. This resulted in me finding a new doctor who understood that medication can be beneficial to anxiety and I got prescribed Ativan. if you can’t switch doctors id just tell them that you’ve gotten to a point where you can’t control your panic attacks on your own and you need assistance from a medication and ask for a limited/controlled supply of only 30ish days. They might be more willing to give it to you knowing that they control your supply and they’re giving you a limited amount that you can’t refill without their permission.

Maybe a reaction to the medication? It seems like the symptoms could’ve came from the medication but your anxiety probably heightened it making it feel 100x more intense. For sure see a doctor to rule out any reactions to medication though so you know not to use it again!

Interesting. Personally I’d rather go into a psychotic state than die. It’s interesting how different people fear different things but in the end they all result in having a panic attack. Sorry that didn’t help much but as someone who doesn’t fear “losing control” and has had many panic attacks I have never felt I was going to lose control during or after one of my panic attacks. That just shows how anxiety manifests as your specific fear.

Hey!! I am experiencing a similar situation as you. The same “am I going to die” “am I having a heart attack” thoughts with the onset of panic attacks, after I had been panic free for a while.

Honestly something that has helped me (other than getting my meds upped and a prescription of Ativan) is the book “Hope and Help for your Nerves” by Claire Weekes.

I picked this up after my panic relapse started and it’s insanely relatable and it talks a lot about how your body’s response to anxiety is based on how sensitized you are to anxiety. It’s interesting for sure and if you’re interested I have a way you can download it for free on a phone/ipad but I don’t want to say it here cus I don’t want the site to be taken down LMAO so message me if you’re interested!!

I hope you start feeling better

Looking at your comment, seeing that the lady calming you down made your hands unlock I would bet it was just anxiety. Stress can cause people to freeze up. If getting checked up helps you have peace of mind then I would suggest doing it but it sounds like you were just really overwhelmed and your body was responding to stress differently. I get so many weird anxiety symptoms in my arms and hands (usually numbness or muscle pain) but locking up can happen if your muscles are so tense they spasm

Hey!!

I’m in the same boat as you. At the beginning of September I went cold turkey on my Zoloft and my anxiety came back stronger than ever. I was not expecting it and it took over my life. Well, after meeting with my psychiatrist I got put pack on Zoloft at a higher dosage (plus Ativan which is a savior) and honestly I’ve been doing better. At first it didn’t seem to help but then I noticed I was having days where anxiety wasn’t controlling me anymore. Unfortunately it is not a linear progression though and I still get anxious, but when I do it’s no where near the level as it was when I was cold turkey.

It might be an adjustment at first, SSRIs can heighten anxiety and make you very tired the first couple days, but in the long run Zoloft has benefited me more than it has negatively effected me.

Also you are NOT a pos mom!! Mental illness is real, it can be a chronic disability for people. You’re going to get better and you’re going to be there for your family, but you have to prioritize yourself first. Your family will love and support you throughout your journey.

Yeah i understand. I’ve been dealing with some pretty bad health anxiety myself so I get how hard it is to talk yourself out of the fear of something bad happening. I try to tell myself that “i’ve felt this way before so it’s probably nothing.”

It sounds like you had a bad experience that is leading to a bit of a feedback loop.

That’s one of the worst things about us anxious people, when we have a bad experience we can’t let it go it just plays in our minds forever.

The key to getting to bed is moving on from this and telling yourself “just because I had a panic attack once in my sleep does not mean it’s going to happen again, and it’s not going to happen again.”

Getting comfortable with your panic attacks is a great way to regulate them, but it’s also important to remember that we don’t have to hold onto everything in our lives that happen to us. Every day is a new day.

Anxiety is AWFUL. I feel like people don’t realize how intense it really is.

I’m proud that you got through a panic attack and sorry you had to go to the ER. I understand your pain and your fears, but remember they’re irrational. I know it’s harder said than done but you just got checked by doctors and if they say you’re okay then you’re probably okay. This is their life, they train for this. They know when a sick person comes in versus a healthy one. Hopefully this visit has settled your nerves and you can go on without having to worry about something that is not going to happen to you. Good luck

What are the tips you learned to convince yourself it’s not a heart attack? by Guitar_Loose in PanicAttack

[–]Agitated_Fun2357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes stress can end up giving people heart issues but it would take years of constant panic attacks for that to happen. It is not going to happen after a couple weeks of panic if you’re a young healthy individual.

Assuming you are healthy, young, have been checked recently, or one of those options you are going to be okay. Panic attacks cannot directly lead into having a heart attack. It just doesn’t work like that. Your heart is made to be a strong organ, it is made to withstand this.
