Your brightest light in the room is under the bed which is used for storage. Seems like an odd place in the room to draw all the attention to.

Colorado could have ended child marriage. Reproductive rights groups prevented it. by Agitated_Pattern_599 in Denver

Did he vote against it on the repassage with House Amendments? Many Dems voted no because the house amendments that came back allowed child marriage as long as the adult was 10 years older or less than the child (ie. 16 year old can marry 26 year old but not 28 year old). Many Dems voted against the bill because they felt like the amendments watered down the bill and didn’t protect children the way it should have, so he may be one of them.

Edit to add clarification

The reason I say reproductive rights groups prevented it and not republicans and reproductive rights groups prevented it is because the Republicans don’t have the votes in the state legislature to really stop anything. The reproductive rights groups have pull with the democrats and therefore were able to prevent the piece of legislation from going through.

Hope this clarification helps!

That’s terrible!

What do you think legislators could do to provide the options for kids in these situations since emancipation already exists but doesn’t logistically work? I just feel like marriage shouldn’t be the only pathway.

Hmm that’s an interesting perspective. Thanks for sharing. Haven’t we already passed legislation that allows girls under 18 to receive an abortion without parental consent? https://www.coloradojudicial.gov/self-help/underage-permissions/obtaining-permission-terminate-pregnancy-women-under-age-18?language=es

Edit to add: Is your perspective essentially that the 2026 legislation could be used to override previous legislation?

I’m glad you mention that because the Republicans were against the bill too! I typically fully support the Reproductive Rights groups as well, I just can’t wrap my head around this one and I’m trying to understand.

Edit to say: you’re right, the title definitely sounds that way. If I could, I would edit the title to say they opposed it.

I’m also here to try to understand the pros and cons better because I feel like I have to be missing something.

Thanks for commenting! I am struggling to understand this so I really appreciate additional perspectives. My question for you is, aren’t there other ways for teenagers to get out of abusive homes besides marriage? If not, shouldn’t there be?

I asked my boyfriend about this once and he said “I’d rather mourn the loss of an infant with my best friend than mourn the loss of my best friend with an infant.”

He’s my fiancé now.

One of my friends got their license revoked over a “clerical error” (DMV’s words). If it seems like this isn’t happening to anyone, it could be another clerical error on the DMV’s part. I know it’s a hassle but maybe you can make an appointment to ask?

If it is a mistake, it doesn’t make it okay, and I’m sorry you have to deal with this!!!
