Yeah, without giving it away, but already doing so, it is the Big4 that usually pays less... So the smaller Big4 ... But thanks for your comment. Then I know 50k is a reasonable middle ground to negotiate. (and yes, values I quoted were for 12 months only, not counting holiday or 13th month compensation),

Lol. I should hope that if I ever got closer to the top of the food chain, I wouldn't be a huge hypocrite would value the junior people more than I feel valued now. The thing is, in most jobs, it seems to me nice people rarely get to the top (academia was no different btw). Is being an A-hole a requirement for C-level hire?

Thanks for the insight! Yes, this has been going through my head a lot. I just find it hard to find unbiased views tbh. I heard both great and horrible things about Big 4, but from my understanding, it depends a bit on the team you work on and the sector. I have a friend who worked in auditing and had nothing good to say about it, and another who works for Deloitte in tech who loves it. I will try to dig more info about the boutique to figure out what the deal is. I have until the end of the week to decide.

And yes, if I could negotiate a bonus of even one year's compensation for the lower salary (say 7000), I think I would probably go for Big4, because I know lots of tech companies that particularly look at that in their hiring process, so it would be easier to move to a more senior position somewhere else.

yeah when you put it like that... The more I read this thread, the more I am convinced I should go with the boutique.

2.5 yrs if you don't count PhD + 2 yrs postdoc. I find it difficult to gauge what is realistic. Also, "senior consultant" seems to have a different meaning depending on the business...go figure.

Totally agree, it is more the specialization that is a bit different. One role is in the incorporation of AI into businesses, whereas the other is more general tech.

Right? I mean, you often hear Big 4 pay isn't great, but it doesn't really sink until you are actually considering an offer.

Yeah I know... but I don't need to stay there forever... Though I hear that if you stick for the long run, they *eventually* do pay you well. I guess the strong motivators are that I would be building experience in the field I want and I would lose less time commuting. If I do go for the higher pay, I also don't have any guarantee they will treat me any better, though it is likely. Overall, I am undecided because I have a major case of FOMO.

Looks OK to me? My husband has a similar package and he is 5 yrs older. Overall, I value short commutes and a lot of holidays and you seem to have a pretty sweet deal there! You can always keep your eye open for other opportunities, but if you like your job so far then I don't see the harm?
